Elden Ring farming spots are some of the most interesting locations in the game. These areas contain regular enemies who would want to destroy your character whenever they get the chance. But, these enemies also have certain movement and attack patterns that allow you to kill them over and over again — once you’ve rested at a Site of Grace.
By repeating this process, you’ll be stacking up runes which you can use to purchase and upgrade armor and weapons, and help your character level up. Role-playing games (RPGs) like Elden Ring can severely punish, but farming for resources makes the game’s journey much easier. This article will cover all the major farming spots you can find in the game and how to make the most of them.

Early-Game Farming Spots
Your Elden Ring rune farm journey begins early on, once you’ve acquired basic character stats and found some weapons you’re comfortable wielding. These areas are accessible without facing a lot of boss fights, and will help you level up quickly.
1. Hunt for Trolls in Stormgate

Number of runes per run: 1,000-1,300
Once you’ve picked a class and know your way around Stormgate, push north from the Gatefront Ruins. You’ll come across a narrow pass that’s guarded by large trolls and a group of good-for-nothing soldiers. Once you’re past the gate, you’ll need to defeat the two trolls.
They drop 500-600 runes each and have highly predictable moves. Use the nearby Stormgate Site of Grace. You’ll need to lure the trolls one by one in hopes of making the fight a bit more manageable, since your character is still a bit underlevelled at this point in the game.
Tip: Ride Torrent to bait the trolls into attacking, then dismount quickly and punish them as if your life depends on it.
2. Farm in Liurnia Without Lifting a Finger

Number of runes per run: 2,000-3,000
Rune farming in Elden Ring doesn’t always have to be a chore. When you’re spending time playing in Liurnia, you can head northwest of the Liurnia Highway North Site of Grace. You’ll encounter spectral enemies here who are engaged in an ongoing battle.
Here’s the fun part: You don’t have to do anything! Just watch them fight, wait for them to die, and you’ll obtain a few hundred runes. While it’s not the fastest way of gaining runes, it does provide a consistent strategy and lets you repeat the process safely.
Tip: Equip the Gold Scarab talisman once you’ve obtained it. It will maximize passive rune collection.
3. Spawn the Boulder at Lenne’s Rise

Number of runes per run: 2,000-2,500
Lenne’s Rise is located within the northeastern part of Caelid, just across the bridge from Greyoll’s Dragonbarrow. If you’re wondering how to level up fast in Elden Ring during the early hours, this is where you should be. Simply find and rest at Lenne’s Rise Site of Grace.
Head to the road just outside Lenne’s Rise and slowly move forward to trigger the massive metal boulder. Dodge to the side, let it roll off the cliff, and watch your runes stack up. Elden Ring’s best rune farms can often happen without you even noticing!
Tip: Try to consume a Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot before triggering the ball, as it boosts your rune gains.
Mid-Game Farming Spots
Once you’re comfortable with the RPG classes in the game and decide to dedicate runes to certain character attributes, it’s important to take a moment from the game’s main journey and farm runes. This will allow you to face mighty bosses with less of a challenge. You can find these spots once your map starts opening up a little as the game progresses.
4. Destroy Vulgar Melitiamen at Bestial Sanctum

Number of runes per run: 5,000-8,000
You can access the Bestial Sanctum in northeast Caelid through the portal behind the Third Church of Marika in Limrage. It’s a high-level area but a relatively easy rune farm in Elden Ring — unless you decide to face the Black Blade Kindred boss nearby.
However, other enemies are much more manageable, especially when you’re playing co-op and have some support. Stay stealthy and hunt down foes until you gather enough runes. Remember to rest and reset at the Bestial Sanctum Site of Grace.
Tip: Use a weapon that can swipe a large area and deal area-of-effect damage.
5. Slice Your Way Through Redmane Castle

Number of runes per run: 7,000-10,000
Redmane Castle is located at the southeastern corner of Caelid, and is a hotspot once the Radahn Festival takes place in the story. This courtyard is filled with NPC warriors, and combatants are looking forward to the boss fight, which is the perfect opportunity for you to farm runes!
Remember to do this before defeating Radahn, since you can safely explore the castle and defeat the gathered soldiers. Simply rest at the Impassable Greatbridge and sneak your way inside. Kill a few, and let the runes pile up. Repeat this process until you have the amount you need.
Tip: You can use a reliable spirit summon to speed up this process, as many foes can gang up on you if you’re not careful.
6. Do Away With Windmill Village Dancers

Number of runes per run: 4,000-6,000
Windmill Village, which has pure horror game vibes, is also an excellent place to farm runes. It’s at the top of a hill in the northern Altus Plateau and looks deceptively peaceful from a distance. Upon entering, the dancing and shrieking villagers may scare you, but you can make the most of the situation while they’re distracted.
First, rest at the Windmill Village Site of Grace, and then start clearing groups of villagers along the path. Repeat this process until you’re confident enough to defeat the Godskin Apostle boss found at the top. However, the area won’t be farmable once you’ve taken down the boss.
Tip: Equip a loadout that prevents Madness buildup, especially if you plan on doing melee damage.
7. Return to Stormveil Castle

Number of runes per run: 5,000-7,500
Once you’ve entered mid-game, it’s time to head back to Stormveil Castle, which is crawling with all kinds of enemies. All of them drop a lot of runes, but the Exiled Soldiers and Banished Knights are high-value foes that drop a lot more — and they shouldn’t be too difficult at your higher level.
Make sure you explore all areas within this region, including the outer walls and ramparts. Multiple Sites of Grace, like Rampart Tower and Secluded Cell, can be your target checkpoints for every run, depending on which part of the castle you wish to farm.
Tip: Practice your attacks against Banished Knights, since they drop 1,000 runes each and have a chance to drop an armor set as well.
Late-Game Farming Spots
This part of the game is where you’re nearing the endgame content. You will require more runes than usual to level up, and scaling a fresh weapon will be difficult. With that in mind, you can now explore some farming spots worthy of your high level.
8. Dispatch Fire Monks on the Mountaintops

Number of runes per run: 15,000-20,000
Towards the end of the game, Mountaintops of the Giants is home to several boss locations that may become difficult, and it can be dangerous if you’re not careful or underleveled. However, just west of the Whiteridge Road Site of Grace are Fire Monks and Warhawks that frequent the snowy region.
If you’re strong enough to face them, keep fighting and defeating them and return to this spot repeatedly. This process may seem difficult at first, but it allows you to invest a lot of runes for endgame leveling.
Tip: Keep a loadout that helps you build resistance against cold and Frostbite buildup.
9. Hide at the Haligtree

Number of runes per run: 30,000-40,000
Having a high amount of runes can be extremely beneficial in the Haligtree area, especially when you’re playing solo. If you manage to find and rest at the Prayer Room Site of Grace, navigate the upper walkways and rooftops silently to defeat Cleanrot Knights and Haligtree Soldiers.
They patrol this area and require your stats to be high if you plan on facing them head-on. Otherwise, your character will end up dying within a few hits. However, with some patience and precision, you can take a risk and eliminate them silently without getting into a brawl.
Tip: Equip Black Knife Armor for silent movements and use bow or magic to deal damage from a distance.
10. Farm on the Cliff of Mohgwyn Palace

Number of runes per run: 40,000-70,000
Mohgwyn Palace is home to some of the most infamous farming spots in Elden Ring and hosts a variety of enemies you can farm. Simply rest at the Palace Approach Ledge-Road Site of Grace, and you’ll notice a bunch of enemies who won’t bother you unless you mess with them first.
Once you get there, use a weapon like the Sacred Relic Sword to clear the entire area within seconds. Even without this weapon, you can use your own methods to get the most kills within a short time.
Tip: Face the edge of the cliff and you’ll see a bird walking on the other side. Try to shoot it with an arrow, and lure it towards you. It’ll fall to its death!
11. Enter the Shadow of the Erdtree

Number of runes per run: 80,000-100,000
In Shadow of the Erdtree, the Land of Shadow has a spot called Rauh Ancient Ruins, East Site of Grace, home to many secrets and foes. You want to bait a Furnace Golem here so it can land a powerful wiping attack that takes out enemies nearby.
Remember not to get too close to the Golem, and stay on Torrent for most of this process. Ride around and try to learn its attack patterns to dodge effectively. Every time you rest and reset, the enemies will respawn nearby, and you can bait the Golum to take them out (unintentionally).
Tip: Try to crouch and hide behind objects (like pillars) so you can evade magic attacks and stay safe.
