Games with Spooky Halloween Events and Gameplay Challenges
Looking for more than Halloween-themed skins? World of Warcraft, GTA Online, Fortnite, Roblox: Dandy’s World and Apex Legends offer seasonal activities that change how you play.
- World of Warcraft: The Headless Horseman dungeon is a seasonal PvE challenge with an optional hard mode and a chance to earn rare rewards, including a sought-after mount. Hallow’s End is listed on the official Blizzard Entertainment page for 2026.
- GTA Online: Rockstar’s 2026 Halloween lineup includes Slashers (with the Clone Slasher), Ludendorff Cemetery Survival, UFO Business Battles and the Ghosts Exposed photography challenge. Rockstar’s announcement also names the Phantom Car, a driverless Declasse Tornado Custom that nods to Stephen King’s Christine, and Peyote Plants among the returning encounters.
- Fortnite: Fortnitemares adds the Nightmare Neighborhood location, where Freddy Krueger is a boss who drops the Freddy’s Nightmare teleport-and-slash weapon. The returning Horde Rush survival mode, the new Bonerattler SMG that reveals enemies, and returning weapons such as the Wood Stake Shotgun and Pumpkin Launcher add further variety.
- Roblox: Dandy’s World: The new Haunted Gala floor event can begin at any point in a run and gives each Toon a random Halloween mask that swaps in another character’s stats and abilities until the floor ends. Trick-or-Treat Doors on every floor hand out random treats—or tricks.
- Apex Legends: In Blood Pact, squads choose Team Beast or Team Demon through Wild Cards while fog can descend at random over a haunted Kings Canyon.
Halloween Quests, Missions, and Seasonal Content
Halloween quests, seasonal missions and Halloween updates are offered by GTA Online, World of Warcraft, Roblox: Dandy’s World and Clash of Clans, each with a different focus: GTA emphasizes survival, photography and collectibles; WoW ties quests to dungeons and lore; Dandy’s World adds a lore quest and a login calendar; and Clash-O-Ween is built around a Medal Event and Clan Games.
In previous GTA Online Halloween events, players earned rewards in Ludendorff Cemetery Survival by surviving zombie waves, photographed apparitions in Ghosts Exposed and hunted 200 Jack O’Lanterns. Rockstar’s 2026 lineup brings these activities back and adds Weekly Challenges, which pay out an extra GTA$2,000,000 if you complete all of them through November 4.
World of Warcraft takes a different approach. Players can trick-or-treat at Candy Buckets in inns across Azeroth, and the Headless Horseman origin questline, added during the Dragonflight-era revamp, gives newcomers and returning players context for his story. Blizzard lists the 2026 dates as October 19–November 2.
Dandy’s World adds a quest table in the lobby whose pieces players collect by completing hidden objectives, plus a daily login calendar that began on October 7. Clash of Clans’ Clash-O-Ween season includes a Medal Event running October 8–25, a Treasure Hunt from October 10–17 and Clan Games from October 22–28.
Halloween Rewards, Special Items, and Extras
Halloween events can reward players with cosmetics, mounts, collectible items and temporary bonuses; GTA Online, World of Warcraft, Apex Legends and Roblox: Dandy’s World all offer examples. Some rewards stay in your account after the event, while others are available only for a limited time.
- Event Rewards — Items earned by taking part in seasonal activities, such as GTA Online’s Halloween Survivals and Weekly Challenges (for example, winning two Adversary modes between October 8 and 14 earns the Pink Skull Emissive Mask and GTA$100,000), the lootable candies around the Candy Bucket in the Neighborhood Holiday Hub from World of Warcraft’s Headless Horseman encounter, or Pumpkins in Dandy’s World.
- Special Items — Halloween-themed cosmetics that may be difficult to obtain outside the event. Past GTA Online events have featured limited-time shirts and masks, World of Warcraft players can pursue the famously elusive Horseman’s Reins mount, and Apex Legends’ Blood Pact adds new skins for Sparrow, Alter and the R-99.
- Free Items — Rewards that do not require an additional purchase or a completed challenge, such as GTA Online’s free apparel for playing during the listed weeks (including the White & Red Tech Demon Mask from October 22–28) or Dandy’s World’s daily login calendar, which grants Pumpkins, stickers and profile prints, plus unique skins for completing a calendar page (awarded October 18 and Halloween Day).
- Limited-Time Extras — Activities, bonuses or items available only during a Halloween event. Examples include Dandy’s World’s Pumpkin currency, which resets to zero when the event ends, and the boosted GTA Online payouts that run until November 4.
Do Halloween rewards last? It depends on the reward. Cosmetics and mounts that you unlock typically remain in your account, even after the event ends. However, the chance to earn them may disappear until a future event—or may not return at all. Temporary bonuses, such as increased reward rates, end with the event.
Halloween Games for RPG, Strategy, and Action Fans
World of Warcraft offers seasonal dungeons and quests for RPG and MMO fans, while Clash of Clans brings Halloween challenges to strategy players. Action fans can explore GTA Online’s survival modes, Fortnite’s Horde Rush and Apex Legends’ Blood Pact, while Roblox: Dandy’s World offers cooperative horror gameplay.
- RPG / MMO: World of Warcraft suits collectors and daily-routine players: the Headless Horseman dungeon can be run once a day per character, a piece of the cosmetic armor set drops each day until you have them all, and the origin questline gives newcomers the story behind the event.
- Strategy: Clash of Clans suits players who plan short attack sessions: during its Battle Options windows (October 1–5 and 17–21) you choose between Clash-O-Ween temporary troops and resources mid-attack, the Portal Panic Medal Event rewards steady attacking through October 25, and Clan Games (October 22–28) turn the same sessions into a clan effort.
- Action / Co-op: GTA Online suits players who want varied freeroam tasks—survival waves, photography and collectibles—in one open world. Fortnite’s Horde Rush suits squads who like building a perk-based loadout and surviving waves, Apex Legends’ Blood Pact suits squads who want a faction twist on Wildcard, and Roblox: Dandy’s World suits friends who prefer cooperative horror with random floor events.
Free-to-Play and Cross-Platform Halloween Games
“Free” can mean different things. Fortnite, Apex Legends, Roblox: Dandy’s World and Clash of Clans are free-to-play, although optional purchases are available, and all four have confirmed 2026 Halloween events. GTA Online’s Halloween activities are included for players who already own the game, but GTA Online is not generally a free-to-play title. Full access to World of Warcraft usually requires a paid subscription, although a free Starter Edition is available up to level 20.
Cross-Play Is Not Cross-Progression
Cross-play means players on different platforms can play together. Cross-progression means your progress carries over when you switch devices. In Roblox: Dandy’s World, progress is linked to your Roblox account, allowing you to continue playing on supported devices. Platform support and individual features may vary.
Platform support differs widely among these games, and GTA Online is the one title here without cross-play between PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
| Game | Platforms | Cross-play | Cross-progression |
| Fortnite | PC, consoles and mobile (availability varies by region) | Yes, across platforms | Yes, through your Epic account |
| Apex Legends | PC (EA app, Steam, Epic), PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2 | Yes, on all supported platforms (on by default; it can’t be turned off on PC) | Yes, automatically, once your platform accounts are linked to your EA Account |
| Roblox: Dandy’s World | Computers, mobile devices and consoles via the Roblox app | Yes, across supported devices; features and controls can vary by experience | Yes, through your Roblox account |
| Clash of Clans | iOS, Android and Windows PC (via Google Play Games, beta) | Yes, players on all platforms play together | Yes, through a Supercell ID across mobile and PC |
| GTA Online | PC, PlayStation and Xbox | No cross-play between PC, PlayStation and Xbox | No ongoing cross-progression; Rockstar offers one-time migrations only between supported versions (for example PS4/Xbox One to PS5/Xbox Series X|S), and not between PC and consoles |
| World of Warcraft | Windows and Mac | Windows and Mac players share the same game and realms; no console or mobile version is listed | Tied to your account |

Halloween Games with Small Download Sizes
Clash of clans is around 600 MB on Android and iOS and will likely always remain around that mark. Other than that, we cannot confirm a Halloween game from this list that is verified to be under 500 MB, under 2 GB or under 5 GB, so we do not recommend one for those thresholds. GTA Online, Fortnite, Apex Legends and World of Warcraft generally require substantial storage space, and installation sizes vary by platform and update, so a single figure may not be reliable.
Roblox: Dandy’s World works differently from a standalone download. Players install the Roblox app, and individual experiences load through it. As a result, there is no single fixed download size for Dandy’s World, and it cannot be verified as meeting any of these thresholds. Check the relevant store or platform listing for the latest storage requirements.
Which Halloween Event Should You Play in 2026?
Halloween 2026 already has plenty to offer, even though not every studio has announced its plans yet. If you want a free event that is officially confirmed, Roblox: Dandy’s World is the safest bet. GTA Online is the best fit for players who already own the game and want a steady stream of bonuses and daily goals, while World of Warcraft’s Hallow’s End remains the go-to annual tradition for MMO fans. Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Clash of Clans are likely to join the lineup, but until their developers confirm the details, it’s best to treat leaks as rumors.
