The whole point is that the Bronze tier "challenge" is like a "tutorial - it's part of the first set of missions to introduce players to the game. You should not hit a sudden "roadblock" on the first set of missions that is out of character with all the other missions.
The difficulty level does not correlate with the mission.

1. If you cannot advance out of bronze 1 you have a very difficult time building your Great Hall.
2. If you cannot build your Great Hall you cannot advance in Arena, above Brutal in Campain or above mid level in dungons.
My teams have all 5 and 6 star L-16 gear. I cannot gain more 6 star gear without advanceing. I HAVE fully upgraded all of my scroll attributes by getting the scrolls through Gems. Speaking of which, is the ONLY way to refresh often enough to get a team or two I can beat in Bronze 1 or 2. When you need to spend 50 gems to win one or two Great Hall medallions it seems a bit of a drag.
When I first started playing this game I felt it would be an interesting change from Might and Magic X, World of Warships, or Guild Wars, but I am finding mtself trying less and less to advance. Yes I still go into Arena for Daily and Clan quests but rather than spend megga amounts of gems I simply lose and stay at the bottom of Bronze 1.
I'm in G4. My GH is a joke, I have one stat at 10, one at 7 and the rest below 4. I've completed NM campaign. And I've cleared 25 in every dungeon. GH is not as fantastical as you seem to believe.

It was only recently that i got any of them that high.

I agree. And especially attack is your last choice. Critdamage will increase the damageoutput better in most cases.

Unfortunately as a new player i didnt really read any guides or put thought into anything for the first 3 months and i sprayed points into everything and focussed on HP!
Im not sure why there isnt a reset option in GH even with a gem fee (or a 1 time reset perhaps)

Probably because when they designed the game, they assumed you'd be farming gold 4 by that point in the account.
