I believe if he has one active or has one showing in the market place-the 8 hrs protection has to run out-either you use what you have in the market place or  purchase another using the GP's

I have heard of this issue before. Some people say there is a specific number as to how many items you can buy with GPs.

But I can't be sure if that's true!

Does he have any other protection items stored or activated at the moment?

and I have the same issue with spy protection.....and I maybe bought 5 in total since I started years ago...

Only time I have had this issue is when I have had a 24 hour one I didnt want to use in storage and it wouldnt let me buy an 8 hour one 

Yes he has two 24h protection stored, does it mean that he has to use them to be allowed to buy with GPS?

and in my case I have 1 spy protection stored, so I suppouse I only can buy after use it...

If he has any protection stored, those protection items have to be used before using GPS-the only time I have seen any 8/24 HR protection build-ups is from in game tournaments where I have won a few. A CM or Mod may correct me on this if I am wrong.
