The tutorial wants me to invite a friend to the game but none of the buttons are working - neither in The Pirate's Den nor those in the bottom scroll bar. My platform is plarium.com and I use a browser. I'd like to collect the reward for making a friend join the game and of course I 'd like to get rid of the connected quest. Can someone help please?

You are right, it's the same with me.
Thank you for reporting it. I'll pass it on as a bug, but - until they resolve it - I don't think there is much you can do.
False alarm. In my case, it was the ad blocker.

If it didn't help, please specify which platform (Plarium/FB) and server (The Pirate Bay/The Golden Coast/Sirens' Strait) you're playing on, and at which coordinates. I'm not sure if devs will need it, but better safe than sorry.
