Preset designs for the stasis barrier instead of only relying on how you place it. Examples: preset designs for a half circle or dome like surrounding and sideways(left to right). The normal skill icon acts normally.
Just add little icons to indicate what each one does.. this would help add to strategy with less chance of it not doing what you want it to.

Another potential idea would be implants that change how the stasis barrier acts, like reflecting weapons fire instead of simply blocking it, and damaging the enemy for a small amount of the weapons damage. though getting it to hit those that shot at it could be a pain to figure out i suppose, unless it automatically adjusts for angle etc when it bounces off.
But the same could be said for implants for all other mechs changing how their abilities work. Could be a normal implant or the mechs could have a separate implant slot.
