Shaman equipment, how does it work ?

Hi, I have taken a look at the shaman equipment making process.

It seems that it doesn't work like with the hero equipments where you have a probability to make a certain quality according to the quality of the components.

With shaman equipment,

what does happen if you combine equipment of different qualities ? and
what if those equipment you use had gems or runes added to them ?

I believe it's the same as for hero gear, you gamble if you want to. And I'm almost sure you lose those gems.

The fact is that the interface is completely different. That why I have a doubt about this.

If you are unable to remove the gems before crafting you lose them. A warning appears.
