Question about shards

This has probably been asked but I can't seem to find  an answer to this specific question.  Can someone explain to me how the defensive shards work exactly?  Why do they show bonuses for all 4 types of units?  For example if I have Ran's Mercy activated I can see that it gives a defensive bonus to my occult defense troops, but why are there percentages shown for infantry, cavalry and bestiary units as well?

It's confusing to say the least.

This is a bestiary def crystal that will give my bestiary def units (griff - undeads) a 40% bonus when defending against infantry, 32% against cav and so on.


and the others do their bonus for other class units.

So the 12% boost it would show when looking at the unit profile is not an overall boost.  It's a boost against other bestiary units and all the others don't show up but are just applied.

I cant say for certain as i am an offence player and have no def crystals active.


BUT i have off crystals active and they show in the unit stats.

Mara's Justice is the beast crystal


When you look at the actual troop statistics in your Sentry House it shows a 22.04% bonus for a level 12 for both Griffins and Undead Dragons

but when you look at the crystal in the Sanctum of Shards it only shows a bonus of 12% for beast

I am going to assume the bonus in the troop stats increase with the lost arts level and xp levels of the units

You are correct. The bonuses are not showing. I suspect devs ran out of space. The numbers do not add up. Hopefully, like the Beacon bonuses and several other items never shown these are appropriately calculated. The only thing I could suggest is submitting a ticket under Bug Reports and have the Support show how it works.

Well its a bit complext for this bonus.

Def has 4 stats, one against each type of unit (infantry / cavalry / occult / bestiary).

The bonus of the shard is different depending on what type of unit is attack it. Maybe they left it off the list for that reason? I guess it could show an average bonus, like it shows an average power for the defensive units overall.
Everyone has a right to an opinion. No one has a right to their opinion being respected by other if it can't be backed up with rational and logic explanation

I get the theory but not sure how you would even gauge if it worked in reality.  It's still confusing but at least I'm applying the shards correctly based on the theory of how they work.

When you're checking Basic Defense of the Unit it gives you an average number of these Bonuses:


But if you open the detailed Stats of the Unit, you'll get this Bonus displayed for each type of the Unit:

If you hover the mouse over each defense stat it shows the effect of all the different boosts on that stat.

Hmm looks like plarium might need to add some new crystal levels lol.

Hmm looks like plarium might need to add some new crystal levels lol.  
Maybe they will added in the future, but for now devs have tasks with the higher priority :)
