I am not going to argue against the time frame. Though I have been in the game on Server 2 for a little over a year and never noticed or had that problem. It did show up couple of days ago, not sure if I have been blessed during this time.

Using a spreadsheet could help in keeping track of your contacts. Microsoft office has an excellent online Excel spreadsheet you can use for gaming purposes, its free and you can customise it for raiding purposes and keep track of your BG. 

plus since its stored in a cloud you will never lose it, I recommend it since the contact list can get mixed up and it needs too many clicks if your list contains too many contacts.

the start a battle feature has never worked on Dark Plains since they added it

Spread sheet sounds like a good way to go.

Though I wouldn't mind if Plariums tools could work as intended, but I guess I am barking up the wrong tree.

personally i use a spread sheet for those contacts i havent in the contact list although i have them on the sheet to take note of the day i raid. i never have used the feature of raid from start battle icon.

what i do is take the sheet and spy those targets i want to raid and watching the last day i raid. i send spies and if they are pretty full i go to their coords and send the raid from the crown.

if i had mistaken the date from there and advise always appears if the limit has been reached and then u can avoid raid them. so do this instead of raiding from contact list or start battle icon till the devs find a fix for this bug

when a game becomes work because you have to use a spread sheet to track things properly then its time to quit, the game features should work as intended as previously stated

that being said if you have your farms in your contact list you can simply put the information there and when you open the contacts you can spy the castles that you can raid from there
