The best way to get decent rewards is to avoid all guaranteed rewards.

Weaken your higher level battlegrounds using only the units that you can afford to lose - When you have 4 or 5 turned to yellow then hit your highest non-rune bg and hope for a good payout

Send one archer to green battlegrounds and send 15 pikemen to red battlegrounds to scout them - this should tell you which units to avoid sending.
Units sacrificed at battlegrounds are not lost forever - they are added to your 'resource bank' which gives good rewards when full

For long time we agreed that term reward is wrong. some times we used 'payout' instead of, but new posts again have 'reward'.

In every BG battle you will loose about 5%, so it isn't reward.

It is generally understood that battlegrounds will repay 95% of the resource value of units sacrificed, but there is supposed to be a random multiplier that can greatly increase this amount - we have not heard much about this recently so maybe it was removed

Keep history, and for now play just low leveled tasks. Try to get full payout on some of them. After that your BG is ready for investments and payouts. Not absolutely true, but this can help you.

There are several conditions for full payout. One of them demands that you have filled bank with enough resources for certain level.

Your bank wasn't full enough to give you full payout on those levels, but very probably is good for full payout on some lower levels.
