I can't seem to get a definitive answer on whether increasing CR to get 100% crit results in bigger heals. And whether this is worth sacrificing defense or hp on gloves. I think player J and/or daering recommend defense, you cant heal at all if you are dead. I've got 60% defense gloves in speed set I can swap in. I think this could get me by Ice Golem 19 and maybe 20.
Critical Rate does help Apothecary do bigger heals.
I wouldn't use Critical Rate Gloves on Apothecary because of the reasoning I already mention
"You can't heal at all if your Apothecary is dead"
However, if you can find Critical Rate in the sub-stats, it could be very helpful.
I think the dream scenario would be to have Def % primary gloves + Speed Substat with rolls on it + Critical Rate in the substats

You can increase crit rate just on the sub stats or using crit rate set, but it's really important to build Apo like a real tank. He's a rare, so he's more frail than epics and legendaries.You are both correct. In my marathon dungeon runs I learned a ton just watching the auto battle. Apo TM speed boost is way more important than the heal. And the aura he provides is huge. He actually died in round 1 of ig stage 19 and I still won! But that also just shows how good jarl and zelotah are too. But yes, I'll swap in 60% def gloves and make him tankier.
