I’ve been using Galek’s Cursed Blade skill (lvl5) to apply the Decrease Defence Debuff on the force Guardian but don’t get credit for it. I’ve tried levels 1-4 numerous times and confirmed the Debuff has been applied but still no joy. Am I missing something?

Are you talking about the challenge for the force guardian? If it is, the challenge states that you need to place a decrease defense debuff before beating stage 5 of the force keep. When it says before stage 5 , it just means you have to apply the debuff on stage 5, before you defeat the boss. It doesn't mean you need to put a debuff before stage 5 (ie. stage 1-4)

I had a problem with this challenge too. I spent so many action points on it and then I found that I was doing a completely wrong dungeon. So don't waste your time and be sure that you are doing the level 5 of the Force Keep. The Guardian should look like this:
If you are in the correct dungeon you'll need a hero with a skill causing the Decrease Def debuf. In my case it was Sorceress. She isn't a very good character but good enough for this challenge:
There are many other characters with Decrease Def skills. I used her just because I didn't have any other with that ability at the start of the game.
If you successfully place that debuf you should be able to see it below keeper's health meter:
And then you just need to win and it's done.
