How to use the Cardinals effectively by Atlant.

How to use the Cardinals effectively by Atlant.

First, as many of you already know, the most efficient way to succeed in this game is to select 1 or 2 of the troops to be "main" in those troops. When Plarium introduced Cardinals, it emphasized the importance of teamwork where clan members each main in a different kind of army all together create a strong army.

The very first step in determining which cardinal to pick, you must already know which troop is your main.

You have to select from one of the following:

Spearmen

Comes with the basis:

Which means that Spearmen has an additional attack power against Cavalry in dealing 50% extra damage to this type of troop, and 25% against knights accordingly. On the other hand, Spearmen will take 50% more damage by the attack from siege and 25% more damage by the attack from Ranged.

Cavalry

Comes with the basis:

Which means that Cavalry has an additional attack power against Ranged in dealing 50% extra damage to this type of troop, and 25% against siege accordingly. On the other hand, Cavalry will take 50% more damage by the attack from spearman and 25% more damage by the attack from Knights.

Ranged

Comes with the basis:

Which means that Ranged has an additional attack power against Knights in dealing 50% extra damage to this type of troop, and 25% against Spearmen accordingly. On the other hand, Ranged will take 50% more damage by the attack from Cavalry and 25% more damage by the attack from Siege.

Knights

Comes with the basis:

Which means that Knights has an additional attack power against Siege in dealing 50% extra damage to this type of troop, and 25% against Knights accordingly. On the other hand, Ranged will take 50% more damage by the attack from Cavalry and 25% more damage by the attack from Siege.

Siege

Comes with the basis:
Which means that Siege has an additional attack power against Spearmen in dealing 50% extra damage to this type of troop, and 25% against Ranged accordingly. On the other hand, Siege will take 50% more damage by the attack from Knights and 25% more damage by the attack from Cavalry.

Scouts

Scouts only deal damage to other scouts.

For the purposes of this guide, we will recommend going with the cheapest option available: Spearmen.

Second, you need to have a building Conclave of Cardinals built in your castle.

Third, you need to have a dedicated war profile with your hero stats only focused on Spearmen attack, defense and health.

Go to your hero skills and first MAX out the following:

Then distribute the rest of your available hero skills by maxing out

First max out Spearmen offense

Second max out Spearmen health

Third max out Spearmen defense.

Fourth max out Army offense

Fifth max out Army health

Sixth, max out Army defense.

and so on. Prioritize offense skills, then health then at the very last - defense.

Then go to Hero -> hero profile -> save hero profile as "___spearmen___" or any other name you wish.

This profile must be activated when your army of spearmen is going to attack.

Third, assuming you selected spearmen war profile, we next need to determine which Cardinal is right for you.

All cardinals in the game belong to one of the three chambers: Twilight, Sun and Moon.

To empower your spearmen army you will need to recruit Oddgeir the Crescent

This cardinal provides extra stats to Spearmen offense, Scout defense and marching speed.

Once activated, these stats will only be active for 1 hour. You will not be able to reactivate this particular Cardinal untill 2 days have passed and the cool down time is reactivated. The key point to remember is to only activate it when you absolutely know that your major battles will occur during the next 1 hour because the boost to Spearmen offense is only active during 1 hour.

Thus, having a fully dedicated hero profile with Spearmen offense plus a cardinal Oddgeir the Crescent will provide you with the most efficient spearmen offense stats.

No, prioritize Health - it impacts both offense and defense. (After all 3 of reduce enemy H / D . O.)

Arguably, then defense, before offense. More live to fight another day. Troops that haven't died get to fight another battle and thus score additional points.

Stats: https://plarium.com/forum/en/throne-kingdom-at-war/599_fan-guides/122194_cardinal-info-and-stats/

Pay attention to which can be updated via RSS, -IF- they are your troop type. Else you will need gold, or to kill MANY troops to get Trophies of Arms to max out your Cardinal.

If you can't do your troop type via RSS, consider doing all of your troop's type in The Alchemical Laboratory first.

Benefits are limited, and costly. 1h on / 2d off may make it hit or miss that it will be available, and you remember to call it, when you need to / it will be most effective.

However, everyone else will be maximizing their cardinals as quickly as they can. You will have to too - eventually.

> ... select 1 or 2 of the troops to be "main" in those troops.

Arguably your 2nd type should be scouts. Your types can stay out of each other's way, then, and you can put them in different profiles. (And you don't have to worry that your scout type will be weak against your enemy's. As you have to if, say, you have Cavalry - weak against Spear and Knights.) And Vigo adds Scout Speed in addition to the Marching Speed that each Inquisitor brings.

Heidar (Ranged), Helene (Cavalry) are equally cheap to Giorno (Spear).

Given the expense for the little benefit, you may want to leave Cardinal to last.

- their unique value is their permanent health bonuses. Skills and Alchemical have Defense and Offense, but not Health.

Nice! Thank you for posting.

"the recharge times will vary depending on lvl of cardinal the higher the lvl the shorter the time it takes." - good tip!

Stats, including which cardinals are for what and are raised how: https://plarium.com/forum/en/throne-kingdom-at-war/599_fan-guides/122194_cardinal-info-and-stats/ (Data contributions welcome there.)

Some bits:

Having prioritized your Cardinal order, recognize that the ones that take rss are the only ones that take time. (When you apply gold, or ToA [Trophies of Arms], the update is instant.) As always, you want to keep all balls in the air and working for you at all times, so you keep builds, studies, trainings, troop upgrades, and ... Cardinal upgrades, all going all the time. So even if your prime troop were Beatrice (Knight) for gold, you could keep Helene (Cavalry), Giorno (Spear), or Heidar (Ranged) rising while saving up more gold.

As levels rise their impact increases (9 -> 10 increases are much greater than 1 -> 2 increases) - so it is arguable whether to max out each, one at a time, or bring them all up together. If your opponents tend to use Cavalry or Spear more than Ranged, perhaps leave Ranged to last.

IIUC, you can keep summoning other Cardinals while the discharged ones recharge. So you could prioritize Edmondo (Offense) after your prime troop, and call it once your prime expires. Or Scout (Oddgeir). Or Scout first, then your troop, then Edmondo, Hugo (Health), and Laurie (Defense) for that matter.

- and don't forget the Building (Edmondo), Studying (Laurie), and Training (Hugo), Cardinals.

"But if he has twilight then maybe i need to decide on not using my cardinal" - so perhaps this is the time to use defense (Laurie - with the offense against Twilight) instead of your prime troop type.

* you will want to max out all cardinals, eventually, for your enemy surely will.

- whether you should focus first or more on troop upgrades for defense and/or offense, or Cardinals for Health ... is a hard question. Health impacts both offense and defense, and health has a greater impact than defense.

Nicely done, thank you for taking the time to help us all out with this.
