Starter packs a setup for failure?

Am I missing something here?  I convinced a RL friend of mine to start the game last night and he got this offer.  I've read that each account gets one super offer at the start of their account, and this was his ($10 instead of $50).  It looks freaking awesome and I'm quite sad I didn't buy one on my account when I started...

But at the same time I'm hesitant to encourage him to get it.  It immediately saddles him with a food deficit of 150k an hour.  Ya, there is a food reduction item that will knock it down to 75k an hour...but that is still insane for a brand new account, and it only lasts a week.

Is there some way to delay receiving the troops or something?  It looks like an amazing offer, but it also looks painful

I think for a novice player, time bonuses are the best, especially if they come with a good bit of extra gold, like 500K+.  If you join a good clan they can help provide the need rss at the beginning and T-1 are best for farming.  With time bonuses you can build up quickly your buildings and knowledge. Also I have read that if you start buying $10 packages you will not get $5 packages offers anymore.

Just have him dismiss the T5's from the Shine of Odin.

This is exactly what I was looking for, I had no idea you could do that.

Thank you!

He kind of missed the entirety of the point of the question, but I do appreciate the advice!

He does, but in the first day you get a "super crazy value" pack that isn't ever available again - it is a vastly better value than any other packs that get offered, so it makes sense to buy it.  We just had to figure out what the hell to do with the troops that come with it haha.
