A server connection error has occurred.  Unfortunately, the game cannot run without an active connection.  Try restarting the game blah blah blah...  Failed to load resources.     Have done all the cleaning restarted game, get the same message each time.

In this case the problems were noted (within an hour?) by several, whom also reported when they were able to get back in. (After about an hour or so. Expectations of the time were that it would be much longer. Turns out, this time, it wasn't.) Point being, they can answer you more quickly and with more certainty, there.
