Query about the history of the game

I've been playing for 2 1/2 years and have a number of questions about the early game:

Were there catacombs in the original version ?

Were there BG's. And what was the max number ?

Was there coining from the start, and what was the usual price for a package?

I would appreciate info on any other major changes that impacted the game.

Thanks in advance to you oldtimers :)

Packages where just for Safs.

The top BG was level 100. Went with the saga quests.

You could all ways build more troops then what food limit allowed.  Yes Troops Deserted But not if they where in you catacombs.

So you would send them out on a Raid to collect food.  cat them and then build more troops be for your troops ate your food.

We also has a Global Saga; BG quest that would happen about once every 4-6 weeks.  The entire server would knock off BG's  over a 2 week period.

catacombs,, yes

Bg's,,,, yes,,, 80 I think, not sure

coining,, yes,,, just not as much to buy

food is probably a top major,,troops do not die now

The initial top bg level was 100.

There have always been catacombs in stormfall, but it plarium's original game, Total Domination, at the beginning there weren't any.  As you can imagine, things got messy real fast.

With regards sapphires:

- Initially there were no offers other than box offers at special times and they were quite limited

- As a result most sapphires were bought from the bank at FULL price (unheard of now)

- In addition there was no 75% healer offer

The advent of permanent offers on the top right of the screen and the healer made the game approx x9 times cheaper, both came nearly together at the back end of 2015. Time wise in the game that was about 3/4 months after the 2nd KT / KOC / KoK etc server war. What Roanne would have done with those offers.

In addition now there have been many mainly bonuses to troop power so that a single dragon can be worth over 8k. Armour, wisdom, building bonuses, extended lost arts etc etc. So troops are approx x3 more powerful than before. You get x3 more for your sapphires.

All in all then the game has got approx x30 times cheaper.

So to begin with, despite ppl having only small armies built (I remember when 10m was A LOT) the money required to unbalance the game was just too large. Yes league with coiners got an advantage but it was simply an advantage that better organisation, understanding of the mechanics or just hard work raiding and exploiting every benefit smartly could offset.

Then the above changes took place and it took a further 6/9 months for a set of people to buy a game unbalancing hammer (spending less than Roanne) and the game has been going to ruin ever since, with it getting ever cheaper to buy troops.

Now there are players who have bought hammers than entire leagues of 150+ members haven't managed to amass in their entire 3 yrs+ of players. There are only a handful of league who can claim league offence bigger than the largest coined hammers.

And so the game became completely unbalance. That makes it pointless for most people to participate. And unsurprisingly the games have died.

The analogy I like to use is why would anyone want to play a game of chess if the other person had paid to start with all queens.

Hmm I should make a micro-transaction based chess game, I bet it'd make a killing.

the "good ole days"

it was much better - you pretty much had to decide if you were going to be a defense or offense player it was unheard of for a single player to have a large offense AND defense or visa versa - there was far more strategy to the game then

25 mil offense was considered a pretty big hammer

the evolution of the game has not been good

that would also resolve the food issue because units in someone else's castles were not subject to starvation

Even now Facebook only uses level one catacombs - there is no resource protection in the catacombs, it is built into all warehouses and barns

Unstead of 18k/18k/18k protection they get 50% protection, which can make a big difference .... Raiders get nothing from you if you keep barns and warehouse less than half full

http://prntscr.com/imct0i

Global BG Tournaments were monthly events and PvP was every 2 weeks
Tournament Tiers were much better too and even Novices could win 1000 to 1500 sapphires in their own tier
The new Elite tier really sux

http://prntscr.com/imciqu

http://prntscr.com/imcjih

The top 3 winners have leveled-up since then .... they were under level 30 when this tournament was played

This was the Expert Tier in 2015 (level 61+) - http://prntscr.com/imclhz

Hello, Lord BODOBULL and welcome to the Forum!

You raised a really interesting question. Time goes fast and many things have changed over these years.

But it's life, if nothing was changed, no new features were added and everything remained as it was I doubt the game would still exist.

As for the changes themselves, plarium.com servers and Facebook servers got different changes as these are different platforms. So, it's a normal situation when some features are present on FB, but don't present on plarium.com and vise versa.

i challenge that.  the game barely exists BECAUSE of all the changes.  if the devs had just left it alone 3.5 years ago it would still be thriving.

Game seems more of a slow paced game now. With auto cat troops from training you no longer need to login more then once a day. Its evolved more into a hobby.

Sure there are armies bigger then leagues. Not many will spend that kind of money on a game. Many opinions, most say game is dead.

It's the question we will never know the reply on as the time can't be turned back.

no. every veteran player knows the answer.

its plarium devs that are having trouble grasping it.

After an absence from the game I've found the game in worse shape than ever. Beacon game destroyed, and next to zero metagame for the average league. The imbalance is blatantly obvious, but Plarium seem oblivious. The changes over the years (poorly disguised microtransactions) have simply fuelled more and more coining.

But suggestions from longtime players in the forums fall on deaf ears. And Plarium representatives have the hide to suggest suggestions are subject to some "game balance test" while they rotate regular 75% revival offers?!?!?!?!

The only thing keeping the game alive is the bonds players have formed and maybe some level of addiction :-) It definitely isn't the product, as it went rotten some time ago and is "on the nose".

Hello.

Welcome back to the game and thanks for your feedback!

1. Devs are aware of the current situation with Beacons. They are thinking about the changes that can be made to this feature so that players could capture and defend Beacons easier, plus receive more Bonuses and advantages from holding them.

2. The thing is that we have certain criteria for the suggestions that can be forwarded to devs: https://plarium.com/forum/en/stormfall-age-of-war/suggestions/31546_which-suggestions-we--do-not--accept/

But it's related to the suggestions only. As for the feedback, I forward it to devs every Monday. So, your constructive feedback is always welcome on the Forum.

Its been like what? Well over a month now since they started thinking.... If you outsource it to a special ed class it might go faster :/

Time can not be turned back nor lost time replaced.  This is true.  However, mistakes can be corrected.   Features that proved to be a bad idea can be removed.  An incorrect path of correction for an existing problem can be backtracked and a different path taken.  It just takes a team willing to admit they were wrong, and then willing to try a different way.

I had put a few suggestions here, but deleted them and moved them to suggestion thread.   I know how to fix most of the game.  I believe the developers do to, but are unwilling to backtrack.   Maybe the task of rewriting the code is just too daunting, but once started, its usually not as bad as it first appeared.  Backtracking is depressing, as time is passing without forward progress, but once you start forward again, and things start working as they should, that next happy hour is much more enjoyable.

Hi, GADHERAS!

Usually, it takes quite some time for the developers to process the players' feedback. Usually, there are many players with the feedback, and not so many developers to process it.

Anyway, every time when we have something to share with you about the players' feedback that has been accepted - we'll definitely keep you posted!
