Calculations depends on time and type of building. Military buildings earn you more points than resource building. 

Value of resource building also affect its value in points. Gold is Less valued than iron so you get less point for upgrading a building that boost gold production compared to iron. 

How much resources you put in doesn't matter. These is easily probable when you build improvement and fortifications.

No you don't earn point for certain fortifications, I think even upgrading a wall will not give you points. But most improvements earn you points.

you win 1 tournament point  for every 10 minutes of building/discovering/upgrading

always if you finish the building/discovering/upgrading inside the tournaments time.

basically the longer the improvement or upgrade takes the more points you will earn during a development race (as Juglar stated points are earned by how long things take to upgrade)

I earned 1866 points.

Here, my mine is level 18:

There, my iron mine is level 19:

So, I earned 1866 points (3732-1866) with this only building.

Does anyone know how the points are calculated ?

Sometimes, some buildings take a very long time to get an upgrade, but provide very few points.

Does anyone have a clue ?

Make sure your use of boosts is economical

A level 18 mine upgrade takes 10 days 19 hours 11 minutes and to boost 2 of these must use a lot of expensive boosts - was it worthwhile on a tournament that gives terrible rewards and NO SKETCHES?
