Plarium Must Resolve the Frenzy Hack

While Plarium does not find itself responsible for hack of a player's email (sic account credentials), they do have an obligation to maintain a balanced environment for the game. In the Frenzy case, Plarium is said to place blame squarely on the victim of the hack, for a perceived lack of security, and yet do not reject the actions of the perpetrator. So then, is a thief not a thief, if said are not caught in the act of the theft? Of course, the criminals are what they are, and we all know that.

Plarium must realize that Frenzy was not the only victim of the attack. Those other league members who, through no fault of their own, lost considerable assets as a result of the attacks. There is no arguing the fact that certain specific players, and specific Leagues, had their overall position and status advanced as a result of the illegal attacks. That being the case, Every Other Player on the Server, has now also been victimized, for the simple reason that they were not also afforded the opportunity to advance their own positions by similar means. Other players on the server were not afforded equal protection under the rules of the game.   Plarium should not allow players to profit through devious means.

I do not expect Plarium to restore all the assets that were lost. AI price must be paid for the lack of due diligence, if that be the case. Yet, justice must be done. An eye for an eye, exacted with extreme prejudice, against all offending members and leagues.  It must be done to restore the environment to its intended purpose.  To compensate all of those vitimized, directly or indirectly.  Plarium cannot change the heart of a thief, but may dissuade the thief from stealing, for nothing but the fear of justice.

Talking to a Rebels player just now. Of course he was cagey about timings etc given the obvious facts. He quickly left our teamspeak with his tail between his legs. But he at least had some morals and filled most of the gaps. I.e.

1. Who apart from the Marshal had permissions to declare war? It was done in such a timely manner, with the perpetrator in place on the other end, ready to accept

2. Who's alt account was it that took control of Frenzies account? Already a mute point as that sh1tty account being a spy was already common knowledge

3. Confirming that other leagues were consulted and Shadows Edge (others smartly declined) chose to be complicit in the incident.

I expect the KoK (hacking is cool) crew will want proof? Do you really want it? Keep waiting chumps. A Rebels snitch is much more valuable than scoring points in a forum :-)

If there is EVIDENCE of hacking, please post it. How it was done, by what means it was done and achieved. Just keep repeat it was a hack doesn't make it so.

Its not Plariums responsibility to fix stupid, just saying.

No mention of hacking in my post? Evidence of scumbags taking advantage of vulnerabilities in Plarium's systems is clear. Open and close case. Or do you propose your EVE boogieman did it?

He is referring to the original poster's comment "Plarium is said to place blame squarely on the victim of the hack, for a perceived lack of security, and yet do not reject the actions of the perpetrator."

As for Gadheras' request for proof, I'd have to say it would be stupid to put such proof on a public forum.  Showing screenshots that give away sensitive information about a system that was already compromised may open that system up to more harm from those who know how to exploit that information.  Providing step by step directions on how to compromise the system, even without screenshots would also be foolish.  Kind of a high price to pay for a "win" on the forum, in my opinion.

Perhaps a screenshot of Plarium saying it was a hack would be sufficient proof, but when you consider that Plarium representatives have already made assertions and then recanted them later, that would still prove nothing other than Plarium said that at one time.

Hence, the whole debate is he said-she said.  We can all argue til we're blue in the faces and at the end of the day, people will believe what they want to believe.

Some here are missing the point of my post.  We do not require proof of a hack, stolen email, or carelessness on the part of Frenzie, whatever it may be.  Even without such evidence, it is clear that malice was perpetrated here, outside the rule of law (in the game).   Evidence of the criminal act is plain to see.  It needs to be addressed, less Plarium acquiece to this behavior.

Theoretical question: What if the marshall of a league decide to screw everyone over and do something similar of own free will. Get feed up with the game, drama, or just go nutts... Should plarium fix it then too? Because someone did something that affected you a bad way?

Lets take some other mmos as example. If someone empty your guild bank for all assets and items. Should the company that run the game FIX it?

That reminds me of what happened to my first corporation in Eve.  I was a noob who mostly liked to mine and chat, so I joined a social corp that just mined, chatted, and sold the ore for ISK.  Our corp leadership was too trusting and got suckered by a merge deal.  One of the PvP corps claimed they wanted us as an affiliate.  We'd benefit from their protection, which would allow us to mine in dangerous areas and get rare ore types, and they'd get cheaper prices on our products.  They told our leadership that for the merge to work, we needed to share corporate assets.  Our leadership turned over control of corp assets to the PvP corp, who then used that control to lock us out and hold our ships ransom.  As you can imagine, Eve support did nothing to help us.  They said it was fair play.

Exactly.

Hello, Lords and Ladies.

Unfortunately, the Internet is not very secure place nowadays and I'm sure we all know and realize it.

Of course, from our end, we do everything possible to secure the game from hackers' attacks. But, let's don't forget that security of your account depends on your actions a lot as well.

I want to highlight 3 main things we all should remember about while trying to make our accounts safe:

1. Never share your login details.

2. Update your password as regularly as you can.

3. Use a strong password. The stronger your password is, the more difficult for a hacker to get it.

I know that you think that even a child knows these steps and they're so elementary. But, such usual and elementary things can safe our accounts and their data.

Returning back to Frenzy case, the final reply on this question was already given here
