Are Settlements the root of all evil?

Why are the Devs so adamant about keeping hamlets around?   Did the Dev Boss lose his or her entire offense in a settlement battle one day?  I keep hearing that many decisions were made because of player suggestion, but when the player base has overwhelming support for settlements and overwhelming distaste for hamlets, the devs act as though bringing settlements back would be the end of the world.

Even suggesting such a thought seems to bring out angry and aggressive tones in Plarium responses, at least in the Facebook forums.

Settlements produced more PVP in a week than hamlets will in a year.   Doesn't PVP provide revenue, at least indirectly, for Plarium staff?

Please explain the absolute and pure hatred Plarium devs have for settlements.

Then please explain the absolute illogical love affair Plarium seems to have with the complete waste of data that are hamlets.

Some coiner must have lost his offense on a league stacked settlement :)

not only could you defend them from multiple castles you could do league strikes

it seems to me that things that can potentially involve team play are eliminated

I for one  glad that settlements are partially gone. They were  seen as property and not in anyway an open feature.

Settlements contributed to bullying on a large scale.

Plarium did the right thing by listening to player and ending them.

You should do research, there are many argument provided for ending them

I never had a problem of any kind with settlements, certainly not bullying, or at least, nothing I would call bullying.   I did on a couple of occasions miscalculated and lost some offense, but I also wiped the offense of others at them.  I have joined with league mates and allies to set up a wall of tears in them, and reaped the PVP points from those that attack without scouting.   Granted, that may or may not work quite as well today with the cheapness of sapphires and lack of troop caps giving rise to Hammers of Pain, but it was fun nevertheless.

Players would spend hours battling over settlements, whether it was 1 archer at a time, or more numbers and far more powerful troops.   Hamlets have no such lure and remain a deserted wasteland of inactivity.

I do not see how you an bully someone in a settlement.  They're not owned.  They are free for all.   You choose whether or not to participate.   You can spend hours fighting for it, or not.   You can choose to shrug it off if someone takes it while you're offline, or you can retaliate upon your return.   Should the ability to siege others be removed as well?

This is a war game, and while there are players who likely enjoy harassing weaker players, there are players who enjoy harassing bullies as well.

There is very little a bully can do to a player in this game.   Weor upgrades are free.   The Catacombs can protect both units and some resources (though the Facebook version can protect far and away more resources).

Even a siege can not stop development, and barely slows it down if the player raids enough.  It can actually offer protection in some cases.  The player being harassed can harass the bully as well, through various methods.

I have to disagree with your perspective on this.  I believe Plarium was very, very wrong in removing settlements.

Yeah there was a lot of fun to be had setting traps on settlements.  I never experienced or heard about bullying on them either, I'm not sure where that came from.

I once found a guy with lots of offense at a settlement. In my excitement, I accidentally boosted my off to his castle rather than the settlement. (he had offense out there too). Seeing my mistake, I boosted back home and again onwards to the settlement and scored big there too. I was thinking I would burn in hell for this, and expect angry mails from the player about wtf he/she ever done to me... but nothing...

Good memories and good times :)

There is no better defensive strategy, at least IMO, than to take out an opponent's offense before they can use it against you.

There is a Facebook Stormfall moderator named Adam that gets angry and complains about settlements being used to destroy someone's offense every time settlements are brought up.  It amazes me that he thinks that is a problem.

I figure he must have lost several months worth of offense in one of them.
