The game should be changed so holding beacons confers some kind of advantage. And it should go way beyond just the advantage suggested in this thread of increased defence for the beacons themselves.
The whole fortress bonus should always have been obtained through beacon holding.
Holding beacons gives great advantage. If DE is not such a big deal why would people bother having server wars and other league to league massacres over them in the 1st place?
If they gave no advantage none of the above would be worth it. Also DE I assume, since it is added to the troops base worth, can have all the other bonus %s added to it. Which is another benny. Which a fort can add to. So DE is not that useless nor is the food reduction that comes with. Which a fort can also add to.
So how do you balance the two? How do you balance them together? Each has its own place independently and together. You can balance out the def to conquer the meglo hammers. But with the force limits on attacking forts. If you thought some were tough to crack now, well that would make it almost impossible then. Unless you had a even bigger wave of hammers requiring another balance of defense recreating the cycle all over again.

Beacons are a shtshow of politics between the major players of the game and I would be lying if I said it isn't fascinating to watch sometimes.
