The "Half Truth War"

I've been catching up on the goings on between the fractious factions in the phony "war".

NEITHER side, nor supporters, is telling the whole truth.  Whether by design or imperfect knowledge, the "truth" will NEVER be known.

Every coin has TWO sides and, no matter how thin, has something in the middle.

No one can see everything at once.  There is always a "point of view" bias, intended or inadvertent.

I could address many inaccuracies printed by BOTH sides, but, it would be nothing more than added flames to most and, as above, be based on imperfect knowledge.

Once upon a time, as most good Fairy Tales start out, we were mostly "friendly enemies".  The personality wars, rancor and outright animosity has done as much, or more, to destroy this game as Plarium greed and stupidity.  Once our fighting and differences were "small" and in short order worked out.

It used to be a War Game, but no longer.  It's a "Cold War" of mutually assured destruction in the image of the Nato vs Eastern Block era.  That said, it's also turned into an "out spend" the other side to "win".  The real fights are "proxy wars" and too many players are sucked into a situation they now little or nothing about just to feed a few dozen egos.  They come into the game, work hard, spend a bit of coin, get wiped out or disillusioned and quit.

Many larger, as well as long term, players are frustrated and leaving the game.

Frankly, it just isn't Fun anymore.

There is NOTHING we can do about Plarium Greed, but there is much we can do to return this to a "Gentleman's" War Game and fight it a lot more honorably than it has for the last year and a half.

These thoughts are entirely my own and I make no claim to speak for any other person, league or alliance.

I totally agree with you that the game is ruined for fun.

Anyone that is having fun has just failed to see the big picture yet. I am simply stuck here due to the difficulty of letting all that investment in time and energy go to waste and from a sense of duty to continue to support friends I have made.

It's a strategy game with seemingly no strategy outside of how to spend the most. Once again I find myself on the wrong end of people spending hundreds of thousands to "win the game".

As to whose fault that is, Plarium for being money ultra greedy and not caring at all about creating a "good" game or the uber coiners for spending the money is a bit chicken and egg. Plarium couldn't get away with it, if they ppl with no concept of money didn't pay their wages for them. But clearly they could have some moral fibre and turn down some of the excess money to create a game with some semblance of balance and still make an honest living.

In the main I blame the games developers (it isn't just Plarium) for taking the easy money and not caring about the long term or the product or their players. If you extrapolate this beyond games it just a microcosm for society in general where capitalism has just been perverted to making money at all costs, selfish pursuit of individual greed - so maybe they are just a byproduct of this age?

Well there's not much too add to both of your comments. Pretty spot on tbh.

Only 1 thing i will say is that The War has started for whatever reason, but for me i wanted to be part of it because the FUN had DIED from the game. I was bored pure and simple. The problem being Plarium has made it a game of Pay to Win, sadly :(.

To me Plarium wouldn't care if the game died tomorrow and are just milking it for all its worth. Well that's what it feels like to me

Overall, a nice post Aaron... least as far as it goes. Half truths indeed, very appropriate title for you aren't telling the whole truth either, whether "intended or inadvertent" it also comes from a 'bias'. (Not blaming you, just pointing it out)

What do I mean? It is simple... What you are referring to goes back to the 1st major war between KT and Coralition. Yes it involved egos, yes Plarium greed (which has gotten worse), yes coining on a scale I'm not sure has been matched in this war (yet) and a number of other details there is no need to rehash.

Make no mistake though, KT set the precedent... 'forged the blueprints' you might say for what is currently going on. Whether it was the spying on a previously unprecedented scale, the spending on an unprecedented scale (lets face it, Coralition wasn't really fighting KT, it was fighting Cpt. Roane who spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and yes all you younger leagues, that is NO exaggeration, in fact, it was MORE than several hundred thousand), a lie based propaganda war spearheaded by the one and only "Friction" and of course the whoring out of alliances to any and all on the server.

^^^Sound familiar anyone? We are observing that even now.The only difference this time is, the Corallition is and can fight back unlike last time.

You are 100% correct about players and leagues being 'sucked into a situation they know little or nothing about" ... but they have already been advised in several well-meaning posts by various players to stay clear of this conflict. If they choose otherwise, so be it. (If you have no idea what happened to many of those smaller leagues after peace between KT and Coralition, I "strongly" advise you to find out before history repeats itself)

As I said above and I meant it, "Overall, a nice post Aaron" I just felt since you started off by listing 'both sides/factions and supporters' and "No one can see everything at once" that we really needed to see a more complete picture and include all the players in this drama ;-)

I am not sure this game can ever be a "Gentleman's War Game"... would be nice though.

And for the record, in regards to a 'Gentleman's War', Destiny 'dropped' a number of alliances just so our allies would not be dragged into this conflict.

As Aaron said above, these thoughts are entirely my own.

PS: I must include this caveat,  I noticed that Aaron did put "year and a half" near the end of his post which would have included the KT-Corallition war and he may have left out a more detailed explanation for brevity's sake (and to keep down confusion)

we all agree to abandone all beacons, and agree to wipe out anyone who takes over a beacon.

let plarium see the screen shots of all the empty beacons. that should send a message.

I'll reiterate: I said nothing about those events and for the stated reason.  Neither truth nor fiction.  It's long past time for everyone to get over it and past it.  There were MANY lies told from all sides and it's still going on today.

I wasn't always a KT Marshal and have never been totally "in the know", even today.  Much I do not now, and did not then, condone.

He got you to read all that and then point out AGAIN that Destiny did the honorable thing .......so I would say that is MISSION ACCOMPLISHED by OMAC.

Very well spotted though. Id give you 2 thumbs up if i could!!

Oh, btw. I know nothing about all this war and whatnot. And don't wanna get dragged into it, not that I'm gonna be of much use anyway lol

Just wanna say. if you wanna know the truth, you have to consider what EVERYONE was saying is TRUE. Point of view, bias and all that can be filtered if you really wanna know it.

Too late, you spoke so now you're in the flame war as much as everybody else :P

There certainly are multiple different points of view in the war that each have some merit.  But there are also people involved who continue to blatantly lie even when everyone in the room knows they are lying and there is concrete evidence sitting right at their feet.

Any chance we can stop with that - seeing as all Bio did was check IP addresses on two posts because he was asked to by the originator of the posts.

1. Forum mods are allowed to check IP's, that is why Plarium opens the functionality to them

2. Doing it when the poster actually asks you to is clearly not a problem

The only disgrace was owned by the person that got caught with their pants down.

In a less forgiving environment what you are doing is slander.

dictionary says:

slander ˈslɑːndə/ Submit nounLAW 1. the action or crime of making a false statement damaging to a person's reputation

Of course, as long as people follow the rules flame wars are fun.  And I question your repeated use of the term "disgraced", no matter how many times you claim otherwise I feel as full of grace as ever XD
