improvements costs discrepancies

I've never really been interested in improvements, the ratio cost/bonus not being in favor of players. anyway, i had a discount at the wheel of fortune and decided to take a closer look at them, and came up with this wonder: why 2 items with the exact defense bonus, don't cost the same?

an example off the top of my head: the vyeon's shield costs 90 sapphires, for +10 bonus. 5 of them will cost you 450 sapphires, for a bonus of 50. which is the same bonus as the hydra, for instance. only hydra costs 1000 sapphires.

now you could argue hydra has extra feature (the 2 hour automatic reanimation, pretty lousy one, to me) so i'll take another example: the guard cohort costs 300 sapphires, for a bonus of +20, which is the bonus of a shade's pavilion, for a cost of 200 sapphires. both being improvements without any kind of extra features...

so i'm curious: what does justify those discrepancies?

One could argue hydras (or castle guards in general) has their own def stats, so they don't need unit to defend. while veyon's shield will need units. The Def stats is pretty weak though lol.

Though if you wanna compare you should look at summoner. 100 def bonus for 400 sapphires, you can only build 5 though.

true but neither the cohort not the pavilion have def stats, and yet one costs 100 sapphires more.
