Champions - Guide

Champions

An Overview

Champions are special Units that can provide various boosts to your Castle and armies. The benefits they provide are different from those of Legendary Units, which improve the statistics of only a certain number of Units.

The Bonuses given by a Champion are calculated on top of other Unit-enhancing Bonuses, meaning that an upgraded Champion can provide a huge boost to your army.

Your Champions can never die. However, if a Champion loses a battle, they may be stunned for a certain period of time. Any Champions you acquire will remain in your collection forever, unless you decide to sacrifice them.

Keeping Champions at your Castle also gives you access to brand new PvE targets - the Undead. Battles against the Undead can yield huge Rewards that will benefit your Castle and army.

Champion Parameters

The power of your Champion, and the effectiveness of their Bonuses, depends on the following parameters:

1. Rarity Grade (I to V). Champions are classified according to Rarity. Each Rarity is given a Grade. The higher a Champion’s Rarity Grade, the more powerful they are and the more difficult they are to find.

2. Rank (1 to 6 Stars). In general, the higher the Rank of a Champion, the more powerful their Bonuses will be. However, Champions at the earlier Levels of a higher Rank are slightly weaker than those at the highest Level of the previous Rank, although they can be improved dramatically.

3. Level. Ranks are split into Levels. To increase your Champion’s Level, you will need to earn Champion XP. Higher Level Champions are stronger than lower Level ones, but the maximum Level a Champion can reach is limited by their Rank. This works as follows:

Rank I (★): Max Level of Champion: 15
Rank II (★★): Max Level of Champion: 20
Rank III (★★★): Max Level of Champion: 25
Rank IV (★★★★): Max Level of Champion: 30
Rank V (★★★★★): Max Level of Champion: 30 (if Enlightened: 35)
Rank VI (★★★★★★): Max Level of Champion: 30 (if Enlightened: 40)

Each time their Rank is improved, your Champion’s Level is reset.

Naturally, a Level 15 Champion with a Rank of 6 (i.e. a six-star Champion) will be much stronger than a Level 15 Champion with a Rank of 1 (one star). Please note that the above logic does not apply to battles with the Undead.

4. Skill Level (0 to 5 per Skill). Upgrading Skills using Orbs will increase the power of a Champion’s Bonuses. While you can decide to which Champion to apply the Orb, the Champion Skill that will be upgraded is decided at random.

5. Enlightenment Level (0 to 5). This is represented by a number in the bottom right corner of your Champion’s portrait. There are five stages of Enlightenment and each one boosts all the Skills of your Champion. A Champion with the Rank of 5 or 6 can only reach their highest Level through Enlightenment.

Champion Types

There are 14 Types of Champion. The Type of Champion you should use depends on the action you wish to take. For example, if you’re attacking a Beacon, a “Beacon Offense” Type Champion would be the logical choice.

Only Champions that boost Resource Production, Spying, and Castle Defense can be activated in the “Castle” tab of the Champion interface.

New currency - Emeralds

Emeralds are a new Premium Resource. You can use them to acquire Summoning Bonds, Champion XP Boosts, and more. You can get Emeralds at the Bank and by upgrading Champions to the maximum Level.

We have also planned Tournaments and Events that will give you the chance to get even more Emeralds.

Getting new Champions

Once you’ve reached Level 40, you’ll receive a series of Quests. Once you’ve completed these Quests, you’ll receive your first Champions.

You can also get new Champions by using Summoning Bonds. Summoning Bonds are used to summon a random Champion of a specified Rarity Grade. There are 3 varieties of Summoning Bonds: Basic, Epic, and Holy.

  • Basic Summoning Bonds allow you to summon a single, random Grade I, II, or III Champion.
  • Epic Summoning Bonds allow you to summon a single, random Grade II, III, or IV Champion.
  • Holy Summoning Bonds allow you to summon a single random Grade IV or V Champion.

The Champion you summon will have a Rank between 1 and 3:

  • Rank 1 (one star) - will likely be summoned.
  • Rank 2 (two stars) - will occasionally be summoned.
  • Rank 3 (three stars) - will rarely be summoned.

Champions, Rank 4 or higher, cannot be summoned using Summoning Bonds.

How to obtain Summoning Bonds:

  • From battles with the Undead
  • By acquiring them with Emeralds
  • By purchasing a Pack found in the “Champion” tab of the Bank

Upgrading Champions

You will need Champion XP to level up your Champions. Fighting the Undead with a Champion will earn your Champion XP. You can also sacrifice unwanted Champions to provide XP to a selected Champion.

Fighting the Undead

Energy is the Resource that must be spent to fight the Undead. Each battle requires 10 Energy. The maximum amount you can have is 100 Energy. It takes five hours for your Energy to fully restore from 0, although you can recharge the full amount at any time in exchange for Emeralds.

There are 20 Levels of Undead. In most cases you will maximize your rewards (Champion XP, Summoning Bonds, and Energy) if you defeat the Undead in a single attempt.

Each Undead has a certain amount of Health Points (HP). In turn, each of your Champions has their own Attack Power statistic. If the Champion’s Attack Power is greater than the Undead’s HP, the Champion will defeat the Undead. By doing this, you will earn Champion XP for your Champion will as well as any additional Reward that drops at random. This is why it is a good idea to pay close attention to the Undead’s remaining HP and the Attack Power of your Champion.

When fighting the Undead, only the Level of your Champion is important.

A Level 15 Champion of Grade III, Rank 6, will be just as effective as a Level 15 Champion of Grade I, Rank 1.

When considering what Undead Level will be suitable for your Champion, follow this rule of thumb:

Suitable Undead Level = Champion Level divided by 2 (round up if necessary)

This means:

Level 1 Champions should fight at Level 1 Undead Locations

Level 2 Champions should fight at Level 1 Undead Locations

Level 3 Champions should fight at Level 2 Undead Locations

Level 4 Champions should fight at Level 2 Undead Locations

Level 5 Champions should fight at Level 3 Undead Locations

And so on.

Needing more than one battle to clear an Undead location will result in you earning fewer Champion XP.

For example:

If your Level 1 Champion successfully fights a Level 1 Undead (and defeats it), you will receive 789 Champion XP.

If your Level 1 Champion unsuccessfully fights a Level 20 Undead, you will receive only 263 Champion XP. Additionally, you will not receive a Reward for defeating the Undead.

Pitting a high-Level Champion against a low-Level Undead will be similarly unprofitable, as the little XP you receive for the fight won’t be worth the Energy you spend.

Get the most out of the final strike

Send low-Level Champions to deliver the coup de grâce to weakened Undead. If your Champion’s Level is significantly less than the Level of the Undead, the final strike will earn you a huge amount of Champion XP.

The ideal scenario would see your Level 1 Champion defeating a Level 20 Undead.

Example:

Your Level 1 Champion delivers the final strike to a Level 20 Undead. Your Champion then gets 9,223 Champion XP and becomes a Level 10 Champion - just like that.

You can engineer these situations reasonably easily. Simply calculate the difference between your high-Level Champion’s Attack Power and a Level 20 Undead’s HP so as not to defeat it in one go. Draw the fight out, then replace your high-Level Champion with the lowest Level one you have. For example:

  1. You use a Level 38 Champion (Attack Power 28,953) to fight a Level 20 Undead (HP 31,948)
  2. Once the Undead’s HP is down to 2995, you bring in a Level 15 Champion (Attack Power 2,508)
  3. Once the Undead’s HP is 487, you deliver the coup de grâce with a Level 1 Champion so that Champion gets upgraded to Level 10.

You can use this method to level up your weaker Champions faster.

Upgrading Champions by sacrificing weaker Champions
While this is the fastest way to upgrade Champions, it requires you to sacrifice other Champions and Resources (5,000 or more of each Resource). We recommend that you sacrifice unneeded Champions of Grade I or II in order to upgrade the Champions you need. It’s also worth noting that Champions disappear after being sacrificed, so make absolutely sure you don’t need them before giving them the axe.

If you don’t have enough Champions to spare, you can always summon some using Basic Summoning Bonds. This will cost you 10 Emeralds per Summon.

Ideally, you’re going to want to sacrifice mainly Rank 1 Champions, because you’ll probably need those higher-Rank Champions eventually (see below).

Upgrading Your Champion’s Rank

To increase a Champion's Rank, you must sacrifice other Champions. The number of Champions you need to sacrifice is equal to your Champion's current Rank. The sacrificed Champions must be of the same Rank as the Champion you wish to upgrade, but can be of any Level or Grade.

For example:

To upgrade a Champion from Rank 1 to Rank 2, you need to sacrifice one Rank 1 Champion.

To upgrade a Champion from Rank 2 to Rank 3, you need to sacrifice two Rank 2 Champions.

To upgrade a Champion from Rank 3 to Rank 4, you need to sacrifice three Rank 3 Champions.

And so on.

After their Rank is improved, your Champion’s Level is reset. You must once again bring them up to the highest available Level in order to reach the next Rank.

If you don’t have enough Champions of the corresponding Rank to sacrifice, you will need to increase the Rank of those Champions you plan to sacrifice. Champions of Rank 2 or 3 might be better kept as food and used to increase your higher-level Champion’s Rank.

The Level of the Champions you use for upgrading Ranks doesn’t matter.

Upgrading Champion Skills

Most Champions have a set of 4 Skills that affect one of the 4 Unit Types (exceptions are the Spying Type Champion, which specifically improves Spying Units, and Resource Champions, whose Skills affect Resource Production and Barn/Warehouse capacity).

To upgrade a Champion’s Skill you will need to use an Orb of a certain Grade. Initially, each Skill is Level 0, and the maximum Level they can reach is Level 5. That means that to upgrade all of a Champion’s Skills to the maximum Level, you will need 20 Orbs.

Enlightenment

This is represented by a number in the bottom right of your Champion’s portrait. There are 5 stages of Enlightenment, and each one boosts all the Skills of your Champion. To enlighten a Champion, you will need to sacrifice another one of the same Grade and Type. The sacrificed Champion will disappear.

Example: You have a Champion of the ‘Castle Defense’ Type. Their Rank is 4, their Level is 30, and their Grade is III. To enlighten this Champion you will need another ‘Castle Defense’ Type Champion of Grade III. Their Level and Rank do not matter.

Use duplicate Champions to enhance your main Champion.

Champion Elements

All Champions have an Element - Earth, Water, or Fire. Each Element performs better against a certain other Element. Water beats Fire, Fire beats Earth, and Earth beats Water.

If you send Champions of different Elements to a location, a "Dominant Element" will be selected to represent your forces.

For battles at your Castle, you can choose which Element you wish to be dominant. At other locations, the Dominant Element will be the one represented by the most Champions.

If your Dominant Element beats the enemy's Dominant Element, you will receive a 25% Bonus to your Champion’s Skills.

For example, if the Champion’s Skill power equals 10% and their Element wins, the total Skill power will be increased to 12.5%.

Activating Champions

You can station up to 3 Champions at your Castle to strengthen Castle Defense, or to improve Resource Production. Champions of the following Types can be stationed at your Castle: Castle Defense, Spying, and Resources.

There may be many Champions in any given battle, but your army can only be represented by one Element in each. When 1 or more Champions are activated at the Castle, you can choose a “Dominant Element”. If you do not choose a Dominant Element, deactivate the Champion with the Dominant Element, or if this Champion is stunned, the army defending your Castle will remain without any Element.
If your Castle is successfully attacked, the Champions you had activated at the time will be left stunned. This is why it is preferable not to leave the Castle undefended.

PvP Battles

When deploying your Units on Offensive or Defensive missions, you can send Champions whose Type fits the mission. This will boost the army’s combat statistics.

Up to 3 Champions can be stationed at a Castle as Reinforcements. However, the Champion with the most developed Skills will be the only one to affect the combat statistics of the Units alongside them. An exception is when one of the Champions is of the Castle Defense Type and another is of the Spying Type - both Champions will provide Bonuses in this case (the Castle Defense Champion will boost Defensive Units, and the Spying Champion will enhance Spying Units).

Defending Beacons with Champions
Champions stationed at Beacons provide Bonuses to the Units that were sent with them and to the Reinforcements already stationed at the Beacon. Please note that Bonus is applied only to the Reinforcements of the player who sent the Champion.
The Dominant Element will be the Element that the most Champions at the Beacon have. If this is not possible (for example, if there are 3 Champions, each having different Elements), then no Dominant Element will be chosen.

Example. The Beacon’s garrison includes 50 Champions with a Water Element, 40 Champions with a Fire Element, and 80 Champions with an Earth Element.
If the enemy’s Dominant Element is Water, you will receive the 25% Bonus to Champion Skills (because Earth beats Water).
If the Enemy’s Dominant Element is Fire, they will be the ones to receive the 25% Bonus to  Champion Skills (because Fire beats Earth).

Sending Champions to Sieges

You can use Champions to assist you during Sieges. The Champion will give Bonuses to the other Units sent alongside them, and if the Siege is successful, they will be stationed in the Castle as a Reinforcement. Please note that the Champion won’t provide Bonuses to the Units defending the sieged Castle. For this, you will need to send a Champion of Defense or Spying Types.

You can send up to 3 Champions as Reinforcements for a besieged Castle. The Dominant Element will be the Element that the most Champions at the besieged Castle have.

Sending Champions to Battlegrounds.

There are two Types of Champions that can be used for Battlegrounds, which are suited to attacking and defending respectively. Champions sent to Battlegrounds influence the power of the Units they’re sent with.

Champions can’t be sent to Saga Quests, only to regular Battlegrounds.

Stunned Champions

If a Champion loses a battle (not against the Undead) they will be stunned. During this time they cannot be used or upgraded.

A Rank 1 Champion will remain stunned for 1 day, a Rank 2 Champion for 2 days, and so on up to a Rank 6 Champion, which remains stunned for 6 days.

You can recover a stunned Champion immediately using Emeralds, or by applying a special item to reduce the recovery time.

You get 10 emeralds for free doing those initial quests.  Beyond that, haven't seen another free source yet.

Lord Oberon said:

Champions

Rang I (★): Niveau Max du Champion: 15
Rang II (★★): Niveau Max du Champion: 20
Rang III (★★★): Niveau Max du Champion: 25
Rang  IV (★★★★): Niveau Max du Champion: 30
Rang V (★★★★★): Niveau Max du Champion: 30 (si Instruit : 35)
Rang VI (★★★★★★): Niveau Max du Champion: 30 (if Instruit : 40)

There are five stages of Enlightenment and each one boosts all the Skills of your Champion.

"There may be many Champions in any given battle, but your army can only be represented by one Element in each.
This is why it is preferable not to leave the Castle undefended."

Batailles JcJ

My Lady, unfortunately, we have this guide only in two languages - Russian and English :(

You can translate it into German by yourself to help other German-speaking players and I will send 5k of Sapphires to your account for doing it.

The online version of this game is incredibly slow & you have made it even slower. Travel times, build times, etc are getting ridiculous long. To go through the champion demo takes an hour & half & for what? The game needs to speed up or it will fail. After 3 years of playing this game, I am presented with a new feature that will force me to sit in front of my computer for hours each day for many months to bootstrap this new feature. With the mobile apps you can at least do other things while waiting for an action to complete but with the online version you are glued to your computer while waiting for critical actions to complete. For me personally, I am just not prepared to go through that intense type of work again. I guess it is time foe me to bow out of this game.

To make this feature work, you need to speed it up. The 1 min. return time for each attack on the undead is too long. This is a totally mind-numbing task that is being spread out over too much time. Consider the time needed to kill 30+ undead without the XP boost turned on (about 1 hour). And this is truly a minor task in this feature. The recently Dragon feature was a mind-numbing make work project for minimal returns but this is even more time consuming. In my opinion, the online version of the game should complete tasks faster than the mobile version because the online version ties you to your computer that generally cannot move.

To resurrect this game, I recommend reducing travel & build times. This would certainly make it more enjoyable for me.

Hello all!

First of all, Lord SNOWGOON, thanks a lot for your help in replying on questions! I know you're playing on FB and already know peculiarities of this feature that was added there quite a long time ago.

You're absolutely right, you can receive Emeralds upgrading Champions to the highest level, and for going through Quests for them.

Plus, in the very near future, we will launch Tournament for Champions where players also will be able to get Emeralds as reward.

As for Summoning Bonds, I highly recommend fighting against Undead as you can win any type of Bonds there (including Epic and Holy ones).

Hello, my Lord!

Thanks a lot for your feedback

Let's avoid comparing browser and mobile version of Stormfall. First of all, because despite the fact they're in a similar setting, these are different games. Each of them has its own balance and different teams of developers are working on them.

Plus, both mobile and browser genre of games have their own peculiarities.

As for Champions, yes, this feature requires much time to make a good collection of Champions, but Bonuses they give worth it :) Plus, if you have Paragon Level of Level 10 and higher activated, travel time of your Champions will be 15 sec, not 1 minute :)

Hi. I recently finished a Spanish translation of the guide. The only variation I made was to use my own screenshots, whose texts are precisely in Spanish. Where can I send it for evaluation and, if possible, publication?

I would also like to take this opportunity to comment on something else. The plarium application cannot be run under linux -Ubuntu-. I use the Wine emulator and this is the error number that gives 0x80070005 - (null). If there is anything that can be done, I would be very grateful, as I do not have windows.

I was pointing out that the online version requires one to sit in front of a computer. To some extent when I play the online version i withdraw from the real world in a physical as well as a mental manner. This new feature requires a lot of real time sitting in front of a computer & to bootstrap this feature would require me to disengage from the real world far more than I am prepared to do at this time. Building the champions requires hours of continuous sitting at my computer to even make the most basic upgrades. I prefer to logon for perhaps an half/full hour a day & catch a few moments of distraction & enjoyment. I am not sure this game is suited to that style of playing any more.

I find the game is getting slower, more tedious & less enjoyable. I believe this new feature exacerbates this problem. I understand Plarium needs to add new challenges to keep the game an active money maker but I recommend adding more active, more interesting & faster elements. Adding new features that endlessly pound the same straw-man over-and-over again for hours. weeks & months on end is like working on a chain gang for the rest of your life. Plarium needs to be more creative & stop adding essentially the same feature over-and-over again.

These are my final comments.

PS: This persona is another of my alts. It will be a bit sad to leave these personas, the league & the game but I think it is time to move on to another game.

Here is my Spanish translation of the guide to champions. It has its own screenshots. I hope you find it useful.
