Major Feature Update! League Fortresses!

Major Feature Update! League Fortresses!

Rule Your League From A Single Fortress!

Construct It For Free Today!

My Lords and Ladies,

The dawn of League Fortresses is upon us!

The quest to rid Stormfall of the darkness is not one that can be achieved alone…

For your League to truly stand a chance of success, it must have one location from which to rule. To that end, Lord Oberon has commissioned his finest architects to draft construction plans for the League Fortress!

League Fortresses are special buildings that serve to unify a League’s forces and strengthen the armies of its Members. You can protect and upgrade your own League Fortress, or engage with rival Fortresses by attacking and downgrading them, greatly affecting their Levels and bonuses.

Having a central Fortress in which to convene allows your League to develop Knowledge, which provides formidable bonuses to all Members.

ABOUT

League Fortresses have 21 levels (0-20). When first constructed, League Fortresses will be at Level 3, but can be downgraded to zero by rival Leagues. The higher the Level of your League Fortress, the greater the bonuses it is able to provide to your League Members.

Each upgrade Level grants you additional Influence Points and increases the bonuses you are able to receive from your Knowledge.

GLORY POINTS

Glory Points are required to Upgrade League Fortresses. They can be earned by either participating in certain Tournaments, or by purchasing them from the “Info” tab of your League Fortress.

KNOWLEDGE

When you construct your League Fortress, you also gain access to League Knowledge. The “Knowledge” section of your League Fortress contains many Fields of Knowledge, which are special areas of discovery that provide statistical bonuses to the armies of ALL Members of that League.

Knowledge is not affected by attacks, and cannot be downgraded. Once upgraded to a certain Level, it will never drop below that Level.

To upgrade Fields of Knowledge, you must use Tomes.

TOMES

Tomes are a special League-only Resource that can be earned by participating in League Quests and Tournaments, or by purchasing them for Sapphires when upgrading your Fields of Knowledge.

FORTRESS INTERACTIONS

Each League should strive to downgrade other Leagues’ Fortresses. Firstly, downgrading rival Leagues’ Fortresses deprives them of much sought-after bonuses. Secondly, downgrading other Leagues’ Fortresses is a key requirement in a League upgrading their own Fortress.

To downgrade a rival Fortress, your League must perform a successful attack on it.

If another League successfully attacks your Fortress whilst an upgrade is NOT in progress, your Fortress will be downgraded by one Level, and 50% of the Glory Points spent on the most recent upgrade will be returned to your League.

If another League manages to perform a successful attack on your Fortress whilst it is being upgraded, the upgrade will fail, and your Fortress will be downgraded by one Level. Your League will be reimbursed 75% of the Glory Points spent on the attempted upgrade, as well as a further 50% of the Glory Points spent on the most recent successful upgrade.

Important: League Fortresses cannot be downgraded more than ONCE per day.

FORTRESS MANAGEMENT (FOR LEAGUE MARSHALS)

BUILDING YOUR FORTRESS

League Fortresses can only be built on special Fortress Foundations, which can be found on the Map and scattered throughout the lands of Stormfall.

Each League may build only ONE League Fortress.

Only the League Marshal is able to initially construct your League Fortress.

To construct your League Fortress, go to the Map. From there, click on the large, blue icon in the bottom-left to open the "Locate Fortress Foundations" window, then click “Find Fortress Foundations”. The rest is simple: find a Fortress Foundation of your choosing, then click "Place Fortress".

RELOCATING YOUR FORTRESS

League Fortress Gateways are special items that can be used to change a Fortress’ location on the Map. League Fortress Gateways can be acquired from the Black Market, from within the “Special” tab.

IMPORTANT

Only League Marshals – and those League Members granted permission to do so – can:

Spend Glory Points to upgrade their League Fortress. Upgrading your League Fortress takes time, but this process can be sped up with the use of Sapphires.

Use League Fortress Gateways to relocate their League Fortress to a new location of their choosing.

Use Tomes to Upgrade a League’s Knowledge.

Heed the information contained within in this text, my Lords. If one needs any further clarification or information, peruse the “Guide” section in-game.

Important: Only Leagues that have been around for more than 7 days are able to create a League Fortress.

If you are the Marshal of your League, click on the “Build” button below to construct your League Fortress immediately! It is time to set your League on the path to greatness!

Lord Oberon

Heir of Veyon, Scion of the Firstborn, Lord Regent of Stormfall

League Fortress

My Lords and Ladies, if you have not yet built a League Fortress, it is high time you do so!

In this post, we have attempted to describe the feature and the way it works in as much detail as we could. We hope it will be of help to you and your Leagues!

“What is a Fortress?” you’d ask. Well, it is a city that a League can build. It can be founded by League Marshals for free with an option to select its location. The Fortress grants bonuses to the League and its members.

Creating a League Fortress

The option to create a Fortress is only available to League Marshals if the Fortress is not built yet. The Fortress can be built for free.

* When creating a Fortress, a League Marshal has to select its location.

* The initial choice of a location is only available to League Marshals.

* The second choice of the Fortress’ location (Teleportation) is available to League Marshals and those who have Fortress management rights.

* Please note that you will need special Teleportation Items to be able to move your League Fortress.

League Fortress’ Purpose

The Fortress provides new opportunities called Fields of Knowledge. They will give bonuses to every League Member. In addition, they will extend your League’s Influence! Every Field of Knowledge can be upgraded to Level 20. Note that Fields of Knowledge are dependent upon the Fortress Level.

For example, your Fortress is upgraded to Level 10, and a Field of Knowledge is Level 10 as well. When the Fortress is downgraded to Level 9, the Knowledge Level will stay the same, but the bonus it gives is going to be Level 9 until the Fortress is upgraded back to Level 10. Mastering the Fields of Knowledge is not determined by the Fortress Level. In other words, even with a Fortress of Level 0 your League can max out the Knowledge. You can master new Levels of the Fields of Knowledge with the help of the Tomes.

Note: Beacons will not be replaced. They will stay in the game along with the Fortresses.

Managing your League Fortress

Once your Marshal has founded a Fortress, your League can start upgrading it. The upgrade progress will be displayed in the “Info” tab of your Fortress as well as all the active bonuses your Units receive from the Fortress. You will be able to change your Fortress’ name there, too. In other words, using this tab, my Lord, you will be able to keep track of all the Fortress affairs. There will also be a “Garrisons” tab where you will be able to see the number of Units defending the Fortress.

To upgrade your Fortress, you will need to go to the “Info” tab. This action can be performed by either the League Marshal or any other League member that has those rights. There are several conditions under which the League Fortress can be upgraded:

* Your League has a sufficient amount of Glory Points.

* You captured the necessary amount of Beacons, and they are of certain Levels (those amounts will be different for different Levels).

* Your League has a certain position in the Rankings.

* You have downgraded an enemy League Fortress of a certain Level.

If the League Marshal is changed, the Fortress management rights goes to the new Marshal. The Fortress ceases to exist after the League is dismissed.

If a Fortress is teleported, all Reinforcements sent there will return to the Castles of players that sent them.

League Fortresses can be added to Contacts.

League Fortress Resources

There are two types of Resources: Glory Points and Tomes.

Glory Points are used to upgrade the Fortress. They can be received as Rewards in League Tournaments or purchased with Sapphires. Using Sapphires you can only purchase the amount of Glory Points required to upgrade the Fortress to the next Level.

Tomes are required to upgrade the Fields of Knowledge in the League Fortress. They can be received as Rewards in League Quests or purchased with Sapphires.

Please note that the Points earned in game challenges will go towards the League balance, not personal ones. If a Lord or Lady quits the League, Glory Points and Tomes received by him/her will not be added to his/her balance. They will remain on the League balance.

League Fortress Downgrade

Lords and Ladies, please note that your League Fortress can be downgraded if your rivals successfully attack it. So make sure it is well protected!

The downgrade is impossible when your Fortress is at Level 5 or 8; in other words, once you reach Level 5, your enemies will not be able to downgrade your Fortress below that Level so you do not have to start upgrading it all over again.

Battle interactions

Lords and Ladies may send Private and League Attacks against the League Fortresses of rival Leagues. An Attack is not a Raid or a Siege; it is an assault with the purpose of killing Units. All battle actions work the same way as they do with Hamlets. Attacks and Spying attempts can be launched against a rival Fortress if it is not under protection (after the Fortress was created). Attacks against League Fortresses cannot be sent by Lords or Ladies that are not in a League or by Leagues that have no Fortress. It is important to mention that you will not be able to see the Attacks coming to your League Fortress. You can send Reinforcements to your League Fortress. Units lost in combat are placed in their owners Healer (regular rules apply).

Available Fields of Knowledge

Food Consumption Reduction

Unit Speed Increase

Infantry Defense

Cavalry Defense

Occult Defense

Bestiary Defense

Infantry Offense

Cavalry Offense

Occult Offense

Bestiary Offense

The Knowledge bonus only applies to the four basic Unit groups.

Limits and special features

* Each League can only have one Fortress.

* Units move to the Fortress at the same speed as they do to Beacons (x24 times faster).

* Protection against Attacks lasts for the first 24 hours after its creation. During that time, none of the League members can Attack other Leagues’ Fortresses.

* League Fortress gets a 24-hour protection after it was downgraded. Additionally, it cannot be further downgraded for some time. Note: The League Fortress can still be attacked.

* Force Limits: Maximum Private Attack - 150,000 Food; Max League Attack – 500,000 Food.

Important! Neophytes will not be able to

* visit League Fortresses;

* interact with them (attack, spy, send Reinforcements);

* take advantage of the League Bonuses.

Neophytes will be able to see the Fortresses on the Map.

Diplomacy

Diplomacy determines interactions with League Fortress in the same way it does with Beacons.

Players in friendly Leagues (Piece status) cannot attack each other’s League Fortresses.

Allies can attack your League Fortress. Attack limits are standard.

Neutral players can attack your League Fortress. Attack limits are standard.

Enemies can attack your League Fortress. Attack limits are standard.

In a Challenge, players of the other League can attack your League Fortress. Attack limits are standard.

During War, players of the other League can attack your League Fortress. No Attack limits.

Lords and Ladies, may the Fortresses bring your Leagues eternal prosperity. Let them be witnesses of your glorious victories!

Sounds really good. I have noticed though, that the physical scale might be a little off. Fortresses look really small on the map, smaller than a castle. I hope there is a way to "enlarge" them. They should be bigger than a beacon, or at least similar in size.

The Fortress design will be different on higher levels. Upgrade it to the level 20 and see what it looks like.

Is this just another step in separating the "Big Money" leagues from the little guys? I had no idea you could possibly develop such a sapphire hog. And the top 20 ranked leagues will have no problem attacking the lower ones, whilst gaining even more strength. Great job plarium, I hope your coffers are brimming. Just when my league was getting ready to take our first beacon you throw fortresses in. Cheers and thank you from all the little guys. You have outdone yourselves. Bacon8er EB

So at what level will league members have an active Upgrade button? Seems my captains have it, but the lower ranks do not. Do I have to turn on the button for everyone?

So the fortresses do not have any defense bonus themselves?  That really puts the defenders at a disadvantage doesn't it?

ETA: Fortress sounds like a misnomer

Another massive pvp target designed to kill as many units as possible - How long before they add Fortress Tournaments? LOL

God yes, the faster we kill off units, the faster the game will die, as people grow bored the time it take to rebuild units :p

Where do I go to see the strength of defense at the fortress?  It seemed obvious to me that this would be in the embassy under the statistics tab...

If there isnt a way to see this, then it is an outrageous oversight.

The marshals need to be able to view the total point value of defenses in the fortress. I have missed it if there is a way to do so now.

LOVE that we have the first truly new content for over a year.

LOVE that it is something that takes a community to achieve, after all this is MMO.

Absolutely HATE that it's be cheapened to a sapphire race. This kind of achievement should only be earned in game. Something a whole player base can work together on and be proud of their achievement. I was excited about it for a few mins but then the fun had gone. Defeat snapped from the jaws of victory :(

There is absolutely no need to monetize every aspect of the game, a comfortable living can be made of this game without the need to go uber cynical, leaving us feeling the game is just about exploitation.

Use your brains, find a balance.

If everything is going to be bought what content is actually left in game for us to play??

I agree with djmoody on this one.  This is more of a $ race than a new feature.  The fortress would be an awesome opportunity to get league to come together and work as a team, but instead its just one more way to siphon $ from your pockets and put it into non permanent boosts that can be taken from you if someone stronger attacks.  I know Plarium has got to make a buck and that games like this take $ to create and run, but must every aspect be converted to nothing but a $ race?  Meanwhile, there has been no improvement to playability issues in the game (the massive lag spikes that plague many players, just as an example).

I agree it's about time Plarium did something for us ahead of their wallet. This is a huge sapphire drain for us and income for them. The least they could do is to make it even a little less costly.

The game struggles to keep players. The main problem is the massive imbalances in the game. People who just want to play & maybe spend a little money are at total disadvantage. It is all about money, size of your league & whether you live online. We all get that after a while & then we start quitting. These fortresses are an order of magnitude worse. I see the possibility that many mid-size leagues will be broken & destroyed. What kind of game will it be if there are only 10 leagues & 1,000 players. I think this is the end game. Money & participation is slipping & this is a final grab at the cash cow before it dies from a lack of food.
