What will happen to the water in the glass, when the ice melts?

2,000 Drachmas will go to one of the Archons to give the correct answer!

The water will be spilled from the glass and then will be vaporized from the heat of the desert...

Floating ice displaces exactly its weight in water so when it melts, the water it melts into takes the same volume that the ice cube displaced in the water.  So the water level will remain the same.

Water level will not change when the ice cubes melt.

That’s simple Archimedes principles we all know from school...

1. Any floating object displaces a volume of water equal in weight to the object's mass.

2. Any submerged object displaces a volume of water equal to the object's volume.

Ice is less dense than water, so ice cube’s volume can not fit completely into space its weight displaces in water (less dense objects occupy more space than denser objects of same weight)...hence a part of ice cube is forced to remain above water (it floats). When it melts, it matches water’s density, hence it now simply fits into the space its weight displaces. Result = no change in water level.

What will happen is that the water level won't change, throw it on a persian after the victory, then pour wine in it and celebrate!

the water level in the glass will not change, since the water will displace the weight of the ice.   the only affect the water will have is it will be a little cooler.

drink the cool water so you can  pi ss  on the Persians after destroying them,    and then drink wine later
