We Love Plarium

Dear Forum Lady,

Hi! It's me! Guy who was told to make this thread by another user on the Forums.

I just want to say that while I still don't like how somethings are in the game, it is a neat game and I enjoy my time on it.

I do want to say thank you for the Amphitheater. It really is handy and gives lots of speed boosts to the things I was complaining about. Primarily the troop training and building times. I still say they are ridiculously long but the Amph helps a lot. So kudos to the team for that. Still, the boosts could be higher... Guess I will just have to unlock the second Tier of the Amph.

PS. I still really want my Legionnaires.

PSS. Been enjoying the Halloween PVP Event.

Thanks for your upvote! Since you are using a gif from Gladiator I'm guessing you know the real meaning of the action as opposed to the modern co-opped meaning. As an avid History it's great to see people using this correctly!

Hello guys,

I am sure there are many things that need to be improved but let's not forget that some of the best games around took them years to get improved :) Plarium is not such huge company as other gaming ones and still has done some nice improvements. As a gamer I do not like many things as you do, but I try to be patient and understand both sides :)

when ther is money involved (some way more then others) it's very hard to keep patient.People pay for things and expect them to be what they payed for.

if you have like 2000 or 3000 dollar invested in your account to play a game you like, you don't expect nor want the developers to change it in a way that isn't what vyou invested for in the first place.

I think Plarium could show their players some more respect to reply on all questions regarding these latest issieus and to work together with their customers to find a solution.

Frankly I am starting to hate Plarium... Used to love this game but a year's worth of annoying micro-management and money-grabbing downgrades and the gradual destruction of many of the original good features has soured me.  Thank you for creating this great topic :)

I'll keep a tally for you:

Prometheus: I think Plarium has made plenty of changes to the game in the last 12 months... They are annoying at best but some are downright destructive.  They all have one thing in common you have to spend more money and more time on the game.

Lockdown51 is thrilled to see shorter building times for units through the amphitheater... I wonder why?  As he decreases his unit building time his opponent does too and ultimately he is be right back where he started. Except that now he has to spend 40 minutes extra every day to manage the amphitheater (It requires 8 logins per 24 hours to maximize benefits). There is no strategy left in this game just the brute force of $$ and time shoveled into the bottomless pit. If you do not you fall further and further behind.

Honestly with your attitude, I wonder how you get the motivation to get anything done in the real world. By your logic no new player should even try to play the game because the veteran players are so far ahead of them. Yeah this is true but guess what? Those vets get bored (or whiny) and leave and then the newbies become the vets eventually. If you never tried at anything because someone has already done it then how do you honestly get anything done? Why bother going to work? Someone will always have done it for longer, have more experience, and be better than you at it.

Maybe, just maybe, people do it for the experience. Maybe they enjoy the challenge of doing something that is deemed "useless" or "worthless" by others.

Sparta is a monitised game. Of course wallet warriors are going to have an advantage. It's called growing up. You don't have the free time you did when you were a kid. Instead you have money now. Welcome to how Free to Play games work.

i would say the game is unplayable for normal people, unless u have acces to your computer during work hours.

Trying to raid after hours, everyone has done their raids and not much left, so too time consuming to keep your queues going.

The game cannot support the players in a healthy way even with botcities.  Its fun for a while, but at a certain point, wasting most of your time for some raids and 1-2 combats per week, cant call that a game.

I would say that if Sparta is your primary game, or even your primary Strategy game that a person plays, I think that person needs professional gaming help. Sparta is a browser game and for a browser game, it does its job. But for grand strategy, or PVP strategy, or any truly deep strategy Sparta is found very wanting.

But I accept and understand that, which is maybe why I'm fine with what Plarium does. It seems pretty standard for a BROWSER game. Any game with timers in it are inherently hard for people with jobs to play since you can't turn over timers while at work. So that is where the monetization comes in.

However I agree with you. I build up during the week so that I can go on a mad raiding spree maybe once a week. This is why I want faster troop build times. I already spent the resources, let me have my legions!

I think you have not yet seen the reality of the game. I tend to agree with Biosdejustise. After being thrilled with the game for a few months I am getting disillusioned.

The game is rigged so nobody really loses.  I think Plarium fears real impact features that change outcome because if you get crushed you might quit and take your money with you.  They "control" the outcome so everyone loses about the same or feels that somehow they are making progress when they lose.  Everyone always loses a bit more than they win so they either slowly fall behind or have to spend money to stay in the game.

This is not a strategy game but a sort rigged lottery game where you can buy yourself the big prizes.

They add "features" that are endless click and collect tasks rather than spending any time adding features that require even minimal skills.  Latest features are badly implemented, take a lot of time to exploit and reduce the impact that you can make through skillful play. Ambushing raiding and siege forces was one of the only ways a small guy could really hurt a big coiner and they are taking it away. Bad decision!

I have never spend a dime on the game and have a measly little army but I still don't like the latest features.  I really think they favor coiners over free players too much.

I have to wonder how long you have played the game and how well you understand it? I am not complaining about the disparity between coiners and non-coiners. I believe that the current complaints have nothing to do with a change in that balance.

The complaints are about the core mechanics of the game and the dumbing down of the strategy.  Veteran players, whether coiners or non-coiners, are joining the protest because they see what Plarium is doing and they have a lot of time and money invested in the game.  They feel Plarium is ruining the game and they believe they should have a say in what is happening.

If the real world worked like this game I would certainly not be motivated to do anything but fortunately it does not work like this game.

Do you believe this is a strategy game? If you do you're wrong.  It is more like a rigged lottery. It takes a while to see through the mechanics and the smoke and mirrors to understand how it works and how Plarium controls it.  At first all the different buildings, agreements, academy skills, units, equipment, weapons, elixirs, quests, tournaments will keep you on a steep learning curve. Possibilities seem endless and there is a feeling that you can crack some code or sign an agreement or find a strategy that will put you ahead of the herd. The game makes it appear as if you're making progress, but it is little more than learning a bunch of mechanical tasks that need to be repeated, month-after-month, just to keep up with other players.  No skills involved and really very little fun repeating tons of boring tasks just to "manage" your city.

As far as PVP & PP battles and tournaments, you nearly always lose more than you gain even if you are a skilled player and invest a lot of time testing strategies.  This means that if your goal is to build a bigger stronger army you are better off never playing any of the "fun" parts of the game. Instead just build and hoard units.

As an example I recently placed in the top 40 in the Emporium tournament. I received a 2,500 Drachma prize in addition to the regular rewards of Drachma, 900 Imperial Thureophoros and a bunch of other stuff.  With the Drachma prize I could revive 1/3 of the Champion Units I lost in the tourney and the 900 units I gained replaced about 1/2 of what I lost. Net result of the tourney I lost 1 million in defensive power and I was considered one of the "winners"... wonder what the "losers" got?

Through the "free resources" that Plarium gives you (City production and bot raiding) you can build either 18 mill offense or 16 mill defense/year with all 4 production buildings running 24/7.  Considering that coiners quickly can reach 100 million offense and defense it will take a non-coiner about 11 years to build to the same level.  If you compete in PVP tournaments and Persian Positions you will have less than those totals because you lose more than you gain in those events.  The idea that somehow newbie free players will become tomorrow's top players by attrition is ludicrous. Coiners will always reach the top and free players will run their farms for them.

I have advocated changing some of the core dynamics of the game for many months and many posts.  I am asking for more "fun features" and less boring management tasks.  I am also asking for battle mechanics that favor skilled players over dumb ones.  Response from Plarium has been to add more boring management features and remove some of the features that allowed for strategy.

As you may know there used to be a tactic for building a large army through PPs.  This feature was allowing non-coiners to really compete with coiners.  Of course the feature also competed with Plarium's goal of selling more unit revivals and unit packs so it was removed in one of the last "upgrades" basically killing all non-coiner's chance to be competitive. The way to build a large army now is to systematically revive fallen units with Drachmas at a price of $200-$300/month.

I am a modest spender on this game and I don't care if I don't have a mega army but I cant keep playing if they kill all the fun features and multiply the boring ones.
