Is there a secret to using Emporia successfully?

While I don't think it is worth the risk of losing units trying to pick up a few scant resources, especially since they are easily obtained from raids, and I feel it simply takes too long to gain enough drachmas to make a difference the availability of denarii frequently tempts me. Now, in theory the speed at which you can gather the coins is above par with the rate you can generate them at the Argentarium. But, in reality it seems that anytime I send units to a Roman Emporia they are dispatched almost at once. I have tried a variety of methods but each attempt has only cost me troops.

I am wondering if there is a method that can produce positive results. I could deal with losses better if I more often came away with denarii. Please help, between training legates and equites I never have enough.

The way they are designed, the only use they have - other than completing the daily personal quest for 2 agemas - is for easyish PvP points during tourneys. Plarium have demonstrated (over several years!) that they are utterly incapable of making them actually worthwhile for farming resources and drachmas from.

Personally I use them only to get my PVP points as was mentioned above.

I used to be a huge fan of colonies but I have never bothered with emporia since they appeared.

I have never wasted a single troop trying to collect denarii or drachmas.

I don't think it's worth it!

They are easy targets no matter if there is a tournament running or not.

It's up to anyone whether they play or not but I don't think there is an efficient way to earn from emporia.

Many players including me believes that colonies are much, much better than emporia. I explained in one of my topics why I think so. I'm still wondering why Plarium developers didn't realize it.

There is small time slot After the American Continent goes to sleep and before the European Players wake up. There are less players at that time. I used to send my army to gather drachmas at that time slot when there was no active pvp going on. For us Asians, its our normal morning hours.

Colonies had their pros and cons. Our developers don't want to bring them back, but they may consider some changes to Emporia to make them more attractive.

Pull the other one.

I asked that question a while back (in this post) and received pretty much the same answers. I always thought it a pity that a whole section of SWOE gameplay lies dead by the wayside rather than being tweaked to revival. I'm sure quite a bit of manpower and resources went into its development.

Cheers

There actually is a way to do Emporia efficiently. Stay online all day sending 10 javs to one Emporia. Sure you won't have a life but those 20-30 res every trip are worth it

You would lose far more than you'd gain; 1 jav = 120 resources (+ minutes of training time).

Give us a summary of pros and cons of both emporia and colony and lets weight them. If you can convince players that emporias are better, I'm sure no one will talk about colonies anymore.

Why can't I send my assassins to the enemy's emporia?

It will be very nice to delete at least the first five minutes without collecting. That five minutes are a nightmare :/

Hello Archon,

I don't think that's a choice. Emporia are easy targets for offensive players.

So even if they do that five minute thing I personally don't think it would make any difference.

They will still be targets in my opinion.

You can't send assassins to emporia, pantheons or capitals. That's a rule of the game.

I'd have to agree, the 5-minute waiting time until one's troops can even be bothered to begin working would be just a drop in the bucket (and what would the Union say? ;-). IMO substantial changes to gathering speeds and/or much slower unit approach speeds to capture/raid Emporia would need to be considered in order to make this interesting.

personally I think that if the person holding the Emp got to keep the res collected up until the point of it being hit would be a win win, the collectors would get SOMETHING for their efforts and Emp killers would still have a reason to hit them :)

There is a point to remove this first five minutes.

And a REAL ONE.

Most of the emporia are attacked in 5-8 minutes. So we almost never get something in there. If you start collecting  since your arrival, you can get many drachme or over. Because offensive player don't have the time to get you the first five minutes.

Lets talk the numbers:

With gravisca level 20 and the 50% bonus of the oracle. you can get 67 drachmes per hour in an emporium. So if you target 3 emporia during five minutes, you get 15 drachmes in this five minutes. Switching to an emporia to an other during an entire hour doing that, admiting there are 10 minutes in the hour for the units moove. This is 3x50 minutes collecting in a hour. so 150 drachmes per hour. That will be one of the best motivator for the player to up gravisca and the oracle. And using emporia of course.

So I think I'm right when I said that's five minutes are the problem of the emporia's hate.

Remove that five minutes will be a successfull and popular second breathe for the emporia system.

Sorry for my bad english, I'm french ^^
