Defense type of roman troop in Phalanx units.

I salute you Archons,

I was thinking that this game is greatly in need of a Defence type of roman troop in Phalanx units.

There is only Evocatus there that can be recruited/build with Denarii. It would help a lot of players, including myself to build a related roman def unit instead .

There are many types of building unit combos and for a def player will help him out a lot.

Thanks for your time.

All my ques are over 30 days..but that Que for phalanx is always the 1/3 ! It's really, really unbalanced.

Hello Archon,

What prevents you from building and using Legates as Roman defense units ? They're even more powerful than phalanx...

I think it was mentioned before a few months ago, there should be a separate training place for Roman troops preferably in the Argentarium. Five training queues will be awesome!!

Hello and thanks for your replies.

ThatBloke, I never mentioned about Horses or building up Legates. Currently my que is : numidians, goldenshield,Legates and trojans.

all ques are 30days+ trojans are on 9days.  We need A roman type of def unit in Phalanx type, this has nothing to do if other buildings got def units or not...There is clearly something missing on phalanx and that is a def type of roman unit as there is an evocatus for the off :)

Training Myrmidons instead of Goldshields is much more cost and time effective IMHO.

When it comes to Roman Units, since they have the same defense value against anything, their nature has absolutely no importance.

The Legates are the most efficient all purpose defense units in the game and they're cheaper and faster to produce than Evocatii, for instance, so it's a better choice overall than would be a necessarily weaker Roman phalanx unit.

Of course, having the possibility to build efficient defense phalanx while using your cavalry queue for something else would be the only relevant reason why such units would be needed.

However, you can still swap queues roles, building  Evocatii and Legates at the same time, for instance. Actually, that's what im doing. Evocatii are quite badass units, almost competing with regular cavalry. :p

In addition, balancing them has probably caused the Plarium staff quite some headaches aleardy, noticing they can't be turned into veterans for some reason... Making them quite exceptional.

Beware, please : the fact I'm suggesting to produce Legates instead doesn't mean I'm opposed to adding a new Roman phalanx units anyway.

It would just be a bit hard to balance it so it's not as redundant as all Carthaginian units (except cavalry, and their individual speed) are already, for instance.

To be relevant, it should be tougher than a Thorakites (which is quite difficult already), yet weaker than a mounted Peltast, or it would make them useless or redundant. As you can see, the margin is quite thin.

That's a reply I was looking for to get :) Thanks for understanding.

The thing is that I am not an off player and I build only fodding units for PP and def. Legates is what I build on cavalry or Mp's/carth. But on Phalanxes, trojans are taking way to much rss and little grain.

So to balance the ques and building it's either adding a roman type of unit (phalanx def) that can cost denarii or an equilevant one that got high grain cost such as carth horse, numidians etc.

So, we Can clearly see that phalanx units lacks 2 type of units :High grain cost def phalanx(which can be used in persians, as the units stated above) and roman/denarii cost def phalanx!

I build Goldshields cause are more effective in Persians :)

Guys, I understand that you are really excited about the possibility to add more Units into the game. However, our Units and their stats are balanced, and that is the main reason why we don't add too many new Units into our game. We have recently added a new type of Units, and I suppose that it will take a while until we are ready to release more
