Unit production time

I noticed that when a Phylarch bonus with unit training speed is activated the academy boost is neglected.

So if the Phylarch bonus is deactivated the unit training speed is estimated only with the academy level training speed for that unit. When the Phylarch bonus is activated the academy level is overridden and only the corresponding Phylarch bonus is calculated against unit training speed.

Is this supposed to work like that or I'm missing something?

If it's working like that IMHO it's a mistake, because scrolls of wisdom effect is cancelled if a player has Phylarch activated most of the time. Scrolls is a game resource which is scarce and also acquired via payment with GPs.

The correct thing would be when the Phylarch is activated to take into account academy level, too against unit training speed.

Good afternoon M.Corvus:

Apologies, but I'd have to disagree. Examining my current unit training speed values, I find this:

  • Row 1: base training speed for this unit type without any bonuses (see SWOE Wiki)

  • Row 2: current academy bonus for level 40. (12%)

  • Row 3: Phylarch bonus (column A with active skill, column B without active skill)

  • Row 4: Sum of bonuses (with and without Philarch skill)

  • Row 5: Current training times (with and without Philarch skill)

See screenshots below:

  • A1/B1: Base training speed: 0:07:00

  • A2/B2: Academy Bonus: 12%

  • A3: Phylarch light infantry training speed bonus: 23%

  • A5 / B5: New training speeds based on bonuses with and without active Philarch skill.

As you can see, bonuses are added correctly, with a 35% bonus (12% Academy + 23% Phylarch) being applied to the training times. Hope this helps, or have I misunderstood you in some way?

Cheers
P.

T.I.P. great job. Then there must something going on with me.

I have Academy level 10 for the Javelineer i.e. time reduction 0.03 and through Phylarch I have reduction 0.18 for lights. So based on theory:

Jav. training time - Base = 180 sec (3 min)

Jav. training time - wth Academy = 180 (1-0.03) = 174,6 sec

Jav. training time - with Academy & Phylarch = 180 (1-(0.03+0.18)) = 180(1-0.21) = 142.2 sec

I now click the Jav. icon in my barracks and the training time is 148 sec with Academy & Phylarch. This problem happens with all of my unit production times.

Your math is good, just not quite applicable for this calculation. When working with percent values for training times (and most other Sparta calculations for that matter), don't do what you would intuitively do:

[New Value] = [Old Value] x (1 - [Bonus%])

… but think sales tax calculation, where the "%" value needs to be extracted from the total price, such as …

[New Value] = [Old Value] x (1 / (1 + [Bonus%])).

An example:

A value of 500 with a 10% bonus is not ...

500 x (100% - 10%) = 450

… but rather …

500 x (100% / (100% + 10%)) = 454.54[...]

EDIT

PS: Here's a link to the editable spreadsheet which I had added to my first response, perhaps the formulas can help explain this.
