well, In the normal game context, the answer is NO.


POINTLESS / BORDERLINE METHOD FOR GEEKS ONLY :

You can play - very limited - in a sort of : Safe mode.
Just do not build the Contracting Office and your base stay literally "out of the game", while being able - in limited part - to develop some main structures. Geeks can - on a long time basis - develop basic structures and climb the first levels, remaining completely "out of the game".
This is a "Safe Mode" because it does not interact with other players.

the short answer is no but if there was a feature in the game that you could get all the bonuses that you could get in a combine solo then it would be possible
