It wasn't always like this. Tournament tiers were arranged according to exp level
21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, 61+

but some bright spark at plarium thought it a good idea to muck around with ranking, but all they did was give all rubies to the coiners and cheats.
They will tell you that the new tiers are designed to place players of similar 'skill levels' in the same tier, and this is based upon previous tournament success. Don't believe a word of it. We now see level 43 players in the same tier as level 93.

All pirates portrayed in this game are purely fictional
Any resemblance in this game to actual pirates is purely coincidental

If you visit other plarium games you will see that your Juggernauts are replaced by dragons or battlecruisers
Exactly the same unit stats and combat mechanics, just with different artwork

From the look of it, he's talking about something a bit different than your response. I believe he's talking about the weekly Fame Board not the prize tournys.

Wanksta - the reason these guys are getting millions of points, is true it wasn't like this in the past but when the max level for prizes came out(160) those of us in the top tier of prizes, those doing 90s and below don't really have a chance on the weekly prizes of making the top 20.

Your first line of defense is support. If there be weakness in support, the whole company is overwhelmed.

There are 2 fame boards when referring to prizes. There is the weekly and the tournament fame. the weekly is the one that can be found by clicking the trophy in the top left corner of the screen and going to missions and yer present location. 

The one in prize tournaments is based on the tournament. Your have the tournament ranking for your class and then fame. The fame covers all players in the tournament who are participating. for Instance I can be #1 in my tier but can come in last on the tournament fame board. So basically the 2 boards are seperate. The same can be said for the pvp fame board. Especially since the weekly fame board is split up by defense and offense. 

 So you were wrong and Bloodaxe was right

It is plausible to put yourself in a different tier. The tiers are based off your previous activity in tourny's. Which is why you can see a lv80 player in the same tier as a lv50 or less. 

The previous system of putting us in the tiers based on level changed to activity. My explanation of the Fame boards answered the question as well as explaining what the other fame board is. As explained in the previous post the tournament has 2 fame boards not 1. Having experienced this first hand. I can say this as fact not speculation.

To explain exactly my experience:

Came in first on the tournament for my league but came in second on the supreme league.
