Where did the piece of gold go? Riddle challenge

Last night, I sat down with a captain and a friend of theirs for a meal to discuss matters of Pirates, and the bill was 25 gold pieces (GP)

We each paid 10GP, which the host gave to the pirate motel we were eating at

The pirate motel gave 5GP back to the host

The host couldn’t split 5GP three ways, so we elected to give the host 2GP as a tip and each of us get a 1GP refund

I’m no smart pirate like my Tinker, but I know when I feel that I’m getting cheated
___________

We each paid 10GP and got 1GP back. 10 - 1 = 9GP

There were three of us. 3 X 9 = 27GP

We paid 27GP and the host kept 2GP. 27+2=29GP

So where did the last piece of gold go?  We paid 30GP but can only account for 29 of them

Ten Captains smarter than me who sort this out get 20k gold each
___________

The competition lasts 7 days.  All responses will be hidden to prevent “copy cat”, yet will be made public after the competition is complete

GL.  May the greatest minds prevail

it is a misdirection

30-25 = 5 refund

1GP gets hand back to each of them = 3GP

and

the host keeps 2GP

so

25+2+3=30 so all coins accounted for :)

Cost of the meal = 25 gold.

Tip = 2 gold

total cost = 27 gold

split 3 ways 27/3 = 9 gold each.

you each paid 10 and got one back.

the text riddle is "we paid 27 and the host kept 2 = 27+2 = 29" is not correct and is where the text description is wrong.

A proper accounting is 10 each (10*3) = 30

total cost from above 27 (30-27) = 3

the one back you all get is 1 each.

keep your gold, and get those NP.

The Bill is 25 GP's

............................................................................................

The Bill is 25 GP's

each paid 10 GP's

the three pirates get each get + 1GP's back

so the host got 2 GP's for the top

pirates each get 1 GP's = 3

host gets  2 GP's   =2

total = 5 GP's

so looks as if it was all accounted for

Each person got 9 GP, which comes to 27.

The host got 2, which comes to a total of 29 accounted for.

The answer is simple. The pirate motel are full of pirates, so therefore they hold the last 1 GP.

Not sure how this works as I just started really for Pirates, but I guess I will post my coordinates here

Yes, each person actually owed a bill of 8.333 or 8 1/3 gold with a combined total of 25 gold not 27 gold.  Each overpaid by 1.6666 or 1 2/3 gold for a total of 5 gold.

30-25= 5.  5- 2= 3. 3/3=1.    1 2/3 -1= 2/3.   2/3*3= 2.   The tip to the host was technically already included.

ROFLMAO!!!  Wouldn't the scurvy bastards pay with pieces of eight and not whole gold pieces? Do the math on that one.

Thank You for your Time,

this is just a remake of a problem from my 5th grade math class so very many years ago... it hasn't changed in over 40 years but with the way children are being taught in public schools these days, most of them would be completely baffled by this problem... it requires logical reasoning as opposed to actual math skills to solve this problem...by the the by,, I solved it using my slide rule..

I had to call a friend so I could use his fingers as well as my toes.  We even color coded them to make sure.

And by call I mean send a rider on horseback to light a lantern in the old north church.
