New Era (NE)
0000 – X

From the beginning of the New Era, record-keeping has increased in both prolificacy and accuracy, with absolute records meaning one is now able to access the complete time-line of the history of the Galaxy in its entirety, up until today. The following information chronicles the exact time and events of mankind, post AD 2125 and into the New Era.

0-300 NE

  • The first 300 years of the New Era are committed to exploring and colonising the remainder of the Solar System.
  • The entire human population is united under one banner across various planets throughout the solar system: The First Empire.
  • 85NE: The Emperor moves the administrative base of operations for The First Empire off-world, relocating it to a floating, orbiting space station to prepare the Imperium for interstellar expansion.

300-780 NE

  • Humanity takes the next 480 years to completely acclimate and adapt to the concept of extended time in interplanetary space, as humanity colonises more of space and expands the First Empire onto more planets.
  • Increasing deification and idolisation of the Imperial Dynastic Family's bloodline. They are revered as kings and as rulers of the galaxy.
  • The First Empire constructs a base on one of Mars' two moons, Phobos, to serve as a relay point and staging base for future exploration into deep space.
  • Approximately 650NE: A first for the New Era, a religious movement, the Blood Star Cult emerges and becomes one of the biggest opposition contenders to the Imperial Dynastic Family's grip on power.
  • The Emperor ordains himself the divine father of “Homo Astrum”, as humanity ventures further into space and past the Oort cloud.
  • Preparation begins for the first mission to visit Proxima Centauri.

780-800 NE

  • 780NE: The first star ship is sent to Proxima Centauri, travelling at
slower-than-light speed, it is expected to return to Phobos within 20 years.
  • 800NE: The star ship returns from Proxima Centauri, carrying environmental samples and data from the star. Preparation begins to the new technology required to colonise it.

810-1710 NE

  • Successful colonisation of Proxima launches 900 years of interstellar expansion.
  • Archaeological team discovers evidence of a long-extinct alien civilization, boasting highly advanced biomechanical technology. They dubbed this civilization “The First”. Data recovered by the team sparks rapid development in new technologies, both as a product of direct influence from the archaeological sites, and as a by-product of scientific inquiry and curiosity.
  • 850NE: The Earth Restoration plan begins. Scientists instigate a plan to return Earth to its former glory, attempting to first clear the atmosphere of all dust and debris resulting from the nuclear war. Their plan is to use a vessel fitted with a vacuum to attract the dust and bring it outside of the Earth’s atmosphere, before a pressurizing system forces it back through the Kármán Line, instantly igniting it.
  • 890NE: Doctor Maxim Tsigalko and a team of scientists develop Beam Drive, a means of high speed interstellar travel. Early Beam Drive technology was only capable of travelling short distances before vessel capitulation, and had extreme side-effects on the human body.
  • Various Beam Drive expeditions are deemed failures, many star ships failing to return home and simply disappearing without a trace.
  • 920NE: Doctor Maxim Tsigalko dies. The Tsigalko Institute is founded in his honour by his students, and is the most advanced physics research laboratory in the First Empire.
  • 1150NE: Beam Drive Propulsion is finally perfected by the Tsigalko Institute, reducing interstellar travel time to comfortably within a human lifespan and enabling total mapping and travel of the immediate galaxy.
  • 429NE: The Earth Restoration plan is complete. Through combustion, the Earth is freed of all dust and sunlight can once again influence all life on Earth. However, this causes extreme heat and a massive amount of poisonous gases on the Earth, meaning it is still uninhabitable.
  • 1670NE: Imperial Survey ships complete the mapping of the observable galaxy: every planet currently known to exist has been completely mapped, along with its properties and orbital information.

1710-2000 NE

  • Pax Imperialis. Three centuries of political stability and prosperity lead to massive expansion of humanity, as it consolidates its hold over the galaxy.
  • Trade and technology thrive, as a new series of benign rulers gives humanity time to focus on advancements in every field.
  • 1800: The Earth has cooled and naturally rid itself of the poisonous gases, by means of various flourishing plant life and giant, mega-forests.
  • Both through natural means and with the help of technological advancements and assistance from humans, the Earth recovers. The atmosphere returns to its previous state of around 2000 years ago, and it becomes habitable again.
  • The Imperial Family re-establishes Earth as its base and point of administration, relocating a small portion of the human populace back to its ancestral home world.

2000-2120 NE

  • The Empire’s sphere of influence begins to reach its limit, due to the technological limitations of traveling by Beam Drive Propulsion having a radius of around 70 light years.
  • The Empire is no longer able to colonise far-away planets with the current technology, so withdraws from directly interfering with Galactic affairs, instead becoming the driving force being the “True Terra” movement.
  • 2064NE: The Empire renounces their divinity and orders the adoption of classical Terran themes for everything from architecture to weapon design.
  • The Emperor grows increasingly distrustful of the off-world nobility. He recalls them to Earth and seals the Sol system, only allowing inter-system travel, effectively quarantining the nobility on Earth.
  • The nobility begins organizing an Earth-based opposition to the Emperor.

2120-2130 NE

  • Earth experiences another near-extinction level event, as a deactivated sample of the HDS-2 bioassembler organism – used in landscape Terraforming – is activated on Earth and begins self-replicating and replicating in other life forms.
  • The HDS-2 bioassembler organism, now known as “Hades”, evades all containment efforts and executes its geo-engineering protocol on Earth’s surface.
  • Populations are decimated, broken down into raw materials and fuel for the assemblers. Swaths of radioactive crystal formations mark the path of the organism, along with deformed plant and animal life.
  • As continents are destroyed, The Empire steps in and the Sol system is quarantined and confined to Earth.
  • Scientists discover a new way to stop the Hades plague. Each continent is isolated and separated up into quadrants, with each quadrant being equipped with huge Terra-morphing modulators, called Emitters, to destroy the Hades plague.
  • 2123NE: Martial law is declared by the Emperor and people are forced to work on Emitter construction 24/7. Extreme conditions, ignoring safety precautions, lack of rest and lack of food lead to worker emaciation and a large number of accidents. Many people die as a result.
  • Praetorian Guards, elite warriors who have sworn a blood oath, are the only force capable of fighting the mutants.
  • 2130NE: The HDS-2 virus is stopped. The cost to humanity is great: millions of lives are lost through one out-of-control human-developed technology.
