Hi guys! So this post is a little bit offbeat because I wanted to broach a subject that is particularly sensitive with some folks. You may have heard how MMO games have the ability to drive wedges between couples, especially if one of the people does not play MMO games and the other one does. It can be a little confusing and somewhat peculiar for the non-player partner to try and understand what has got his or her spouse so enrapt in the game. The fact is MMO games are completely awesome – and I say that because it is true, not because I'm a big fan!
We have already established that MMO games have incredible audio-visuals, fantastic communication channels and the highest levels of interactivity you could expect in an online medium. Consider that you've got thousands, perhaps even millions of players on servers at any given time. And all of these players have one thing in common: They love the game. By immersing yourself in the world of MMO, you are opening up a portal to a virtual universe occupied by real people. These are fellow couples like you guys, and they are happily engaged in virtual combat at any given time.
By encouraging your partner to take an interest in your MMO games activity, or vice versa, you are actually involving your partner in things that you enjoy doing. Two heads are better than one in MMO, and especially two heads that understand one another like a married couple. Okay – cut me some slack here (not all married couples get along – I get it!).
But what I'm trying to say is that by finding common interests that really don't cost you very much at all, if anything, you’re actually strengthening your marriage by involving one another in this pleasure-filled activity. (Read here how our TD Players got married!)
Every one of those sob stories that you've heard about MMO games tearing couples apart are only possible if those relationships weren’t strong to begin with. If you guys are on the same page, get your partner to give your favorite MMO a shot. They’ll probably enjoy it, and be thrilled to have yet another activity to share with you!
There are many ways that you can get excited about bringing your spouse into your MMO game world. Be sensitive – your spouse probably doesn't know very much about online gaming to begin with, so you'll have to be patient. There is a reason that the two of you are together in the first place – this may just be another side of you that he or she wants to explore!
