or at the very least if we have to click - adding as friends or adding as allies should be one of the quick options from the drop down list in the  Embassy / My League / Warrior listing.

You requested to enter that league. i can't think of a league that you are not suppose to friend all members. Besides...make it an option is all i'm saying. 

If this was to be a feature that the Marshal of the League would need to activate (As if to say it's required to friend all the members of the league ) That should protect from the concept of it being Spam. (just My two cents )
