Only explanations i can think of is
A if they were in your league when you sent and they left before the return trip (and you did not have them as friends)
B if you were friends when you sent and either you or them defriended the other before the return trip
C you of them moved your castles futher away.. but i dont think it would be that long then
Can someone explain why the speed of caravans to a friend is as it should be but the return trip is not? I sent resources to a friend and it took 30 minutes to get to him. The return trip is taking 2.5 hours.I have the same problem, refreshing helps.

7 min send food to a friend in my league takes 4.5 hours to get back home.
Trade food for iron in market with an ALLY And Friend in another league 10 min to get there and 6 hours to come home.
Reports from several league mates show the same as me. Plarium FUBAR again.

I had the same problem and tried refreshing but that did not appear to help. It has been reported to Plarium but I would still suggest submitting a ticket to Support http://support.plarium.com/enstormfall/Tickets/Submit/Step1/48 to get a definitive fix.
